Assistant Accountant

About the Role
The Assistant Accountant supports the Finance Department by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and facilitating smooth day-to-day accounting operations. This role demands strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and commitment to deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting records and post transactions, including general ledger entries, accruals, and prepayments.
- Record supplier invoices and manage up-to-date creditors and debtors accounts.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank, debtors, and creditors.
- Generate tax invoices and verify billing accuracy.
- Assist in preparation and submission of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, SDL, WCF, WHT).
- Process supplier payments and monitor aging reports for timely settlements.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register and assist in physical verification.
- Provide documentation and support during internal and external audits.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution.
- Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, MS Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge: Understanding of Tanzanian tax laws and statutory compliance.
