Purpose of Position

The Fire Chief is a dedicated professional who supports the Emergency Response (ER) Lead in managing firefighting response and fire equipment readiness within the operational area.
They support and assist the ER Lead in leading the Emergency Response Team (ERT) during emergencies.
The Fire Chief acts as a key member of the On?Scene Command team and may serve as the On?Scene Commander when designated or in the absence of the Fire Chief, until relieved by a senior position.

Key Responsibilities

Accountability

  • Assist the ER Lead in addressing firefighting and fire?prevention concerns and improving conditions.
  • Ensure efficient execution of firefighting activities on site to meet operational requirements.
  • Participate in audits and support documentation required by relevant internal and external parties.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Emergency Preparedness & Response Section Head and ER Lead in planning, implementing, and coordinating firefighting and rescue programs to reduce fire incidents, injuries, fatalities, and operational losses.
  • Provide first?line supervision to assigned areas, ensuring manpower and competency requirements are met.
  • Provide recommendations to the ER Lead regarding personnel performance, career development, or organizational changes to enhance firefighting capability.
  • Assist the ER Lead in guiding, directing, and motivating subordinates, setting performance standards, and identifying training needs.
  • Provide dedicated support on all firefighting and fire?prevention related matters.
  • Assist in managing an integrated auditing system to ensure adherence to company policy and to drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to departmental objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in evaluating third?party service providers, consultants, and contractors to ensure competence and compliance.
  • Assist in planning and executing firefighting exercises during commissioning, start?up, and operations.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the ER Lead, Emergency Preparedness & Response Section Head, or Department Managers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Fire Chief must possess the knowledge, skills, and experience typically gained through formal Firefighting Training combined with several years of operational and supervisory experience in emergency and command?and?control situations.

Business / Operations Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in firefighting, including at least 3 years in a Fire Chief role.
  • Completion of Firefighting Training, Incident Command, Hazardous Materials First Responder, CPR, Basic First Aid & AED, and training in fire extinguishers, SCBA, rescue equipment operation, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding and compliance with business controls.
  • Immediate reporting of any business?control deviations to the supervisor.

Safety, Health & Environment

  • Formal safety and health qualifications preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and background in environmental management.

Additional Information

  • 12?month renewable contract based on performance and operational requirements.
  • Working hours: 0800–1700 daily, with standby duty after office hours.
