Our client is looking for an experienced HSE Manager to join their team. They are a midsized environmental services and field operations company that supports projects across Alberta, specializing in remediation, reclamation, environmental consulting, and field-based project delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening their safety culture and ensuring all work is delivered in compliance with provincial regulations and industry best practices.
Overview
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager is responsible for fostering a strong culture of safety and environmental excellence. This role ensures compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations while continuously improving internal safety programs, procedures, and performance.
The HSE Manager will develop, implement, and monitor preventative measures, oversee incident management, and provide leadership through coaching, mentoring, and training employees at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organization in complying with all applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Ensure proper measures are taken to protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, and visitors across job sites and office environments.
- Promote strong safety and environmental awareness across the organization.
- Develop and maintain an incident?reporting system focused on proactive reporting and continuous improvement.
- Respond to HSE concerns and guide corrective actions.
- Coordinate or deliver training such as first aid, CPR, workplace inspections, accident investigations, and other safety-related topics.
- Maintain certifications such as COR and compliance platforms including ISNetworld and ComplyWorks.
- Maintain and update the company’s Safety Manual in alignment with OH&S regulations.
- Keep accurate safety documentation, logs, reports, and compliance records.
- Ensure proper understanding and application of WCB and OH&S worker rights, responsibilities, and regulations.
- Provide a visible safety presence at field and project locations.
- Support HSE components in bid qualification and prequalification submissions.
Experience & Qualifications
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred.
- Graduate Certificate or Diploma in a related field (HSE Certificate, Environmental Studies, etc.).
- Minimum 10 years of HSE experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental management systems.
- In?depth understanding of provincial OH&S, WCB, and environmental regulatory requirements.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to build professional relationships across internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and external partners.
- Proficiency with HSE platforms such as SiteDocs, ComplyWorks, ISNetworld, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Skills, Competencies & Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with clean abstract; ability to travel to project sites.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and influencing capabilities.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive approach to safety.
Working Conditions
