Lead Engineer – Layout & Piping Engineering
An opportunity for an engineer responsible for the physical arrangement and piping design within processing facilities across multiple project phases. The role includes developing plot plans, unit layouts, pipe routing, 3D models, and technical documentation while ensuring safety, constructability, and operational compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop plot plans, routing studies, tie
in definitions, and preliminary material take
offs during early studies.
- Produce unit layouts, piping arrangements, 3D model (30%), component lists, and updated design information during definition phase.
- Deliver full 3D models, fabrication documentation, MTOs, insulation requirements, tie
in packages, stress analysis coordination, and as
built documentation during execution.
- Translate process diagrams into complete plant layouts.
- Lead design coordination, reviews, and clash resolution within multidisciplinary teams.
- Support civil, mechanical, process, electrical, structural, and automation integration.
- Manage scope, planning, design quality, and compliance across engineering phases.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in plant 3D modelling tools (Smart 3D, E3D, PDMS, Plant3D).
- Strong knowledge of piping stress principles and industry standards (ASME B31.1/B31.3, EN, ISO, API).
- Experience developing layouts, plot plans, and routing in industrial plant engineering.
- Understanding of process safety and risk mitigation.
- Experience preparing MTOs, isometrics, and piping material specifications.
- Ability to lead teams, coordinate disciplines, and support construction/commissioning.
- Experience working with international design teams.
Qualifications:
- B.Sc. with 10+ years or M.Sc. with 7+ years in piping design and plant layout.
- Demonstrated experience as a lead or chief design engineer.
- Experience in brownfield modifications and integration with existing assets.
- Strong communication skills in English.
Preferred:
- Experience across FEED, basic, and detailed design.
- Background in plant modernization and complex integration.
- Knowledge of modularization and constructability
