Job Purpose

Lead and steward all project marine units’ safety, quality assurance, and compliance activities. Act as the Project Marine Coordinator throughout the marine execution phase, providing subject?matter expertise, resolving operational challenges, and ensuring adherence to maritime best practices, international regulations, and project standards.

Job Context & Key Challenges

  • Act as Marine SME for vessel and marine unit selection, including technical bid evaluations, inspections, and assurance processes.
  • Manage interfaces between project teams, marine operations, and external parties.
  • Ensure compliance with marine operations procedures, specifications, and international maritime regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication across multiple stakeholders to resolve safety, quality, and operational issues.
  • Serve as focal point and custodian for all marine assurance activities related to floating and marine assets engaged in the project.
  • Demonstrate strong safety leadership and ability to manage changing priorities, emergent issues, and unplanned events without compromising ongoing operations.
  • Role may be shared across projects depending on workload and project requirements.

Key Job Accountabilities

Mobilisation Phase

  1. Ensure vessel suitability surveys are carried out by approved third?party inspectors, with findings closed out effectively and on time.
  2. Verify validity of inspection reports and oversee safety inductions for all project personnel, crew, and passengers prior to offshore departure.
  3. Review and vet marine assurance documentation submitted by contractors and steward corporate safety campaigns and initiatives.
  4. Provide SME input to marine-related procedures and participate in risk assessments.

Execution Phase

  1. Monitor marine unit acceptance certification and manage renewal dossiers in line with marine operations procedures.
  2. Manage periodic inspections, ensuring compliance with maritime conventions, contractual obligations, and industry standards.
  3. Act as focal point for marine defects and breakdown management, including close?out coordination between stakeholders.
  4. Support and participate in marine incident and accident investigations, capturing and sharing lessons learned.
  5. Contribute to marine progress meetings, reporting KPIs, performance standards, and compliance metrics.

De?Mobilisation Phase

  1. Manage marine unit demobilisation or transfer, close out acceptance processes, and conduct performance reviews at charter completion.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine, engineering, or science disciplines or diploma in marine/nautical studies
  • STCW II/2 or STCW III/2 certification

Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum 8 years seagoing experience, including at least 1 year as Master or Chief Engineer
  • Offshore marine operations experience within the oil & gas sector
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations, codes, and standards
  • Experience with offshore construction vessels, barges, heavy lifts, transportation, installation, and subsea support activities
  • Regional experience advantageous
  • Marine consultancy or warranty survey experience desirable (OVID preferred)
