Our client is seeking a Mechanical Technician to work within their facilities located in Carlsbad, NM, for an initial one-year assignment.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician with deep expertise in Caterpillar 3500/3600 series Aerial Compressors (3516/3616 KBZ) and electrically driven compressor units. The ideal candidate will bring 7–10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of large industrial compressor equipment used in oil & gas operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on Caterpillar 3516/3616 KBZ Aerial Compressors and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on 3500/3600 series CAT engines, including rotating equipment, power end, and compressor frames.
  • Work on electrically driven compressor units, ensuring proper alignment, lubrication, and operational integrity.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, vibration analysis, and performance evaluations to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, work orders, and equipment history.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to support continuous improvement and minimize downtime.
  • Adhere to XTO and industry safety standards, procedures, and compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in oil & gas, midstream, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Caterpillar 3600/3500 series engines and compressor packages (3516/3616 KBZ).
  • Proficiency with electrically driven compressor units and associated mechanical systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with rotating and reciprocating equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and safely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications related to mechanical maintenance, compressor systems, or CAT equipment.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
