Our client is an international environmental group focused on reducing plastic pollution in rivers and coastal areas. They deploy river?interception systems, work closely with local partners, and build long?term community?based capabilities. Mumbai is a key location due to its scale and environmental impact potential.


Role Overview

The River Cluster Operations Manager will oversee the day?to?day performance of several river?interception systems across Mumbai. While local partners handle on?ground operations, this role ensures systems meet technical, safety, and performance standards. You will also support knowledge transfer between global experts and local environmental partners.
This role begins as a contractor position.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee multiple river deployments, ensuring compliance with technical and operational standards.
  • Support annual planning, budgeting, and KPI setting.
  • Assist in planning and prioritising new deployment sites.
  • Lead training and capacity?building for local partners.

Performance & Reporting

  • Monitor system output, uptime, and reliability; identify areas for improvement.
  • Supervise monitoring/control?room activities.
  • Conduct KPI reviews and ensure accurate reporting on performance and environmental impact.
  • Implement corrective and improvement measures.

Partner & Contract Management

  • Ensure partners and suppliers comply with operational and contractual expectations.
  • Recruit and guide local operational staff when required.
  • Maintain strong QHSE standards across sites.
  • Build positive working relationships with contractors and environmental organisations.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with local NGOs, municipal bodies, and community partners.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between global teams and local operators.
  • Support long?term frameworks for sustainable river?protection efforts in Mumbai.

Professional Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical, civil, maritime engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands?on experience).
  • 5–10 years’ experience in river works, maritime or infrastructure operations, or maintenance.
  • Experience in contractor management, procurement, or KPI?driven operations.
