About the Role

An international energy and technology driven company is expanding its presence in the Japanese power market. To support this growth, the client is seeking a highly motivated Originator focused on power asset–linked risk management and structured energy solutions.

In this role, the successful candidate will take a leading position in developing the company’s asset solutions business in Japan. The selected individual will work closely with a small commercial team and receive support from trading, quantitative analysis, legal, and operations specialists across the region. The role offers high ownership, clear commercial targets, and the opportunity to help shape the company’s Japan franchise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, structure, and execute asset based risk management and structured power transactions in the Japanese market
  • Lead the full commercial cycle: identify prospects, conduct outreach, qualify leads, prepare term sheets, and close deals
  • Collaborate with traders and structurers to design hedgeable payoffs, ensure accurate pricing, and deliver executable terms
  • Build and maintain relationships with utilities, developers, IPPs, large energy consumers (e.g., data centers), and investors
  • Develop competitive structures including PPAs/offtake agreements, option-based structures, imbalance/shape transfer, tolling, and revenue share models
  • Track market and policy developments to identify opportunities and avoid mispriced risk
  • Work with internal teams to ensure smooth transaction execution and handover
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and market meetings in Japan
  • Coordinate with another business developer to scale outreach and improve conversion rates

Qualifications

  • Experience originating structured or asset-based deals in the Japanese power market—from initial lead to contract execution
  • A strong sales track record with measurable pipeline creation and deal conversion
  • A solid network across utilities, developers, IPPs, large energy consumers, investors, or advisors
  • Business level Japanese and English, including negotiation capability and clarity in explaining commercial/technical concepts
  • Understanding of renewables, battery storage, or conventional generation cashflows; imbalance/balancing mechanisms; and settlement basics
  • Ability to convert complex asset exposures into clear and bankable commercial structures
