MAIN FUNCTIONS
Responsible for leading a cross-functional, integrated project team heavy civil and mining projects (M$20-50) and driving competitive project performance in Stage 2 (FEL2).
Duties will include planning and assembling project teams, leading the project through Gate reviews, managing Contractors, and project stewardship.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead project by assembling and leading an integrated project team with accountability for project performance (Safety/Quality/Cost/Schedule)
Set key Gate dates and develops plan to support project goals/timelines, including aligning with operational constraints
Plan and ensure project deliverable reviews are completed on time and to the required quality
Ensure stakeholder alignment on project objective and strategies (POS), concept selection, overall schedule and project cost and value delivery
Championing and drive project competitiveness through implementation of organizational strategies with other functional teams
Drives Concept Selection and optimization activities
Partner with Senior Technical Leads to define work, risks and appropriate mitigations associated with the project
Develop and arrange endorsement of Project Road Map with input from key stakeholders
Steward project, functional, business and other discipline support to ensure timely completion of reviews, resolution of technical queries and required actions, manages development phase budget
Monitor and appraise pre-FEED / FEED Contractor(s) execution against plans and specifications, and participates in developing improvement plans to close gaps in performance
Develop Project Organization Plans
Manage and ensure integration of discipline and other functional input to and gain alignment on project basis
This role is based out of our Calgary office, with occasional travel to the Kearl site
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
BASc in Engineering and either holding Professional Engineer designation in AB, or eligible to apply for Professional Engineer designation
Experience managing capital projects for civil or mining in FEL2 and FEL3
The candidate must have leadership and personnel management skills, and strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively
Proficiency in most Project Management skills (e.g. execution planning, contracting/procurement, cost estimating, project controls, planning & scheduling, organization design, etc.)
Ability to work cross-culturally and adapt to different time zones
Ability to manage remote teams
