Job Title: QA/QC Inspector – Shipyard / Marine

Job Purpose

The QA/QC Inspector is responsible for executing and documenting all quality inspection activities related to shipyard and marine projects. This role ensures compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, class society requirements, and international standards. The inspector will also support quality assurance processes, liaise with clients and third-party bodies, and contribute to continuous improvement through root cause analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dimensional, Fit?Up & Visual Inspection:

    • Conduct fit-up, visual, and dimensional inspections in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, and applicable codes.
    • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports with accurate measurements and photographs where required.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

    • Perform NDT activities, including Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Radiographic Testing (RT), as per project requirements.
    • Prepare and maintain inspection reports in compliance with NDT procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

    • Carry out Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) as per class society requirements.
    • Prepare thickness reports using AutoCAD-based drawing methods and class?approved thickness measurement software.
  • Pressure & Vacuum Testing

    • Witness pressure tests and vacuum tests for tanks, pipelines, and structural components as per project specifications.
    • Issue certificates and reports confirming compliance with test requirements.
  • Client & Stakeholder Coordination

    • Coordinate with clients for scheduled QA/QC surveillance, inspections, and technical clarifications.
    • Liaise with class societies and third?party inspection agencies during inspections, surveys, and audits.
  • Mechanical & Machine Shop Inspection

    • Perform inspection and measurement activities for mechanical and machining work, including:

      1. Shaft alignment
      2. Trueness checks
      3. Bearing alignment
      4. General machining tolerances
  • Coating & Painting Inspections

    • Verify incoming paint materials against specifications.
    • Conduct blasting, surface preparation, and final painting inspections in accordance with NACE/AMPP standards and project requirements.
  • Production Compliance Monitoring

    • Monitor adherence to approved procedures by production teams, including welding, fabrication, and material handling operations.
    • Ensure welding consumables, materials, and equipment are properly controlled, identified, stored, and traceable.
  • Calibration & Traceability

    • Ensure all calibration records related to inspection tools, welding machines, and gauges are up to date and compliant with QMS requirements.
  • Non?Conformance & Root Cause Analysis

    • Participate in investigations for non?conformities (NCR), customer complaints, and quality deviations.
    • Support root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  1. Education:

    • Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgy.
  2. Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in marine, shipyard, oil & gas, or petrochemical sectors.
    • GCC experience is preferred.
  3. Certification:

    • CSWIP 3.1 or AWS-CWI (Certified Welding Inspector).
    • ASNT Level II certified in RT, UT, PT, and MT.
  4. Coating/Painting Certification:

    • NACE/AMPP Level II (mandatory).
    • NACE Level II or BGAS Grade 2 is an added advantage.
  5. Additional:

    • ISO 9001:2015 QMS training or certification.
