Welding QAQC Lead

Join a groundbreaking project in the LNG sector as a QAQC Lead, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest quality standards in welding operations. This full-time contract position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a $20 billion strategic project in Mozambique, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art LNG facilities.

Role Overview

  • Champion Safety Leadership: Foster a strong safety culture among Client, Contractors, and Subcontractors by providing advanced guidance on HSE and driving continuous improvement in welding safety standards.

  • Oversee HSE Compliance: Ensure implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies related to welding and fabrication.

  • Monitor and Evaluate Welding Performance: Review, analyze, and report on the overall welding performance of Contractors and Subcontractors.

  • Ensure Regulatory and Code Adherence: Lead the verification of compliance with applicable welding standards, codes (e.g., ASME, AWS), and project specifications.

  • Manage Stakeholder Relationships: Establish and maintain effective relationships with Contractors, Subcontractors, and third-party inspectors.

  • Escalate and Resolve Project Risks: Oversee the identification and reporting of welding activities with potential adverse impacts on quality, schedule, or cost.

  • Coordinate Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Guide collaboration across disciplines (NDT, piping, mechanical, construction) to optimize project quality assurance strategies.

  • Ensure Transparent Communication: Keep Project Management and Area Managers informed of all critical events affecting welding-related project goals.

  • Act as Senior QA/QC Authority: Serve as the primary QA/QC/Inspection representative for welding.

  • Lead Documentation Review: Oversee the review and approval of contractors’ welding quality plans and supporting documentation.

  • Verify Inspector and NDT Competency: Ensure that Contractors maintain adequate and qualified welding inspection personnel.

  • Manage Nonconformities and Trends: Oversee the resolution of welding-related nonconformities and monitor defect trends.

  • Direct QA/QC Interface Management: Supervise interface management for site QA/QC and welding inspection activities.

  • Facilitate and Lead Meetings: Lead daily, weekly, and monthly meetings prioritizing welding QA/QC topics.

  • Oversee Reporting Activities: Supervise preparation and submission of all welding discipline reports.

  • Advise Project Leadership: Provide expert advice on all QA/QC and welding inspection matters.

  • Supervise QA/QC Welding Activities: Direct all QA/QC welding and inspection activities performed by Contractors.

  • Oversee Welder Qualification: Supervise and witness welder qualification tests.

  • Control WPS Implementation: Monitor and enforce the implementation of qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

  • Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities related to welding.

  • Ensure Traceability and Materials Control: Ensure traceability of welding consumables, materials, and weld joints.

  • Resolve Technical Queries and NCRs: Lead the resolution of welding-related technical queries.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) expertise.

  • Strong auditing skills related to welding operations.

  • In-depth knowledge of applicable welding standards and codes (e.g., ASME, AWS).

  • Proven ability to instill a strong HSE culture.

  • Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Portuguese or French is an asset.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering) or equivalent in a related discipline.

  • Advanced post-qualification specialization in QA/QC, Inspection, or Welding/Metallurgical discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in welding QA/QC or related disciplines, with at least 8 years in supervisory or lead roles within the oil and gas industry.

  • Certified Welding Inspector or equivalent senior-level welding inspection qualification.
