Airswift has been tasked by one of our major clients to find a QC Lab Technician to work a 6-month contract in Havre De Grace, MD.
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Quality Lab Technician has the primary responsibility for the sampling, testing, and monitoring the continuous process of manufacturing precipitated silica and silicates. The testing, evaluation, and release of the finished product is also included in these responsibilities.
NATURE & SCOPE:
• Minimum 2 years equivalent lab experience OR minimum of an Associate degree in chemistry.
• Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, & PowerPoint. Experience with SAP would be a plus.
• Basic understanding of statistics. Ability to maintain accurate and timely plant analytical data files.
• Sound judgment skills to evaluate the testing results and respond in an appropriate manner to ensure product quality.
• This position requires sufficient independence to fulfil these activities with a minimum of supervision.
• Must be flexible to work shifts and weekends
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Perform all laboratory functions in a safe manner and actively support the safety program.
Collect and test samples (raw materials, in process, finished goods) following defined test methods.
Document all results on the appropriate datasheets or in a lab notebook, as defined by procedures. Verify all results prior to entry into electronic databases.
Make product approval decisions according to defined release criteria. Initiate Non-Conformance Reports and participate in out of spec investigations for off spec product; based on lab results or SPC (Statistical Process Control) review. This must be completed in a timely manner to meet customer orders. This includes managing the results database, SAP, SharePoint, etc.
Accurately and efficiently report the test results to aid in production process or batch adjustments and perform any additional testing to minimize cross contamination from product changeovers. Assure that sample requests are quickly addressed and that lab testing promptly completed.
Maintain the lab equipment and calibrations as required to ensure accurate and consistent results.
Conduct required testing for Environmental and plant utilities to ensure compliance to permit requirements
Adhere to the procedures defined under the ISO-9001 certification and comply with BRC food safety certification requirements.
Test R&D samples/programs following defined test methods, supporting the on-going projects from AT, Innovation, or PT to support patent work and new product development. All results must be entered into the LIMS system and record in the appropriate lab notebook for review signoffs.
Assist production of an excipient grade product. Including loading and unloading of kilns. Followed by the milling and screening steps to put finished product into fiber drums for delivery to customers. Also perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment and write work notifications when necessary to keep equipment running efficiently.
Maintain production retain samples following the established procedure.
Participate in studies as assigned by the Global or Regional Reference labs, including the monthly Global standards testing program.
Assist with completing internal audits and support on-site customer audits and ISO-9001/14001 and BRC Food Safety audits, as directed by Quality Manager
