Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Reservoir Advisor to join their team on a contract opportunity in Calgary. This individual will support the ongoing integrity, optimization, and strategic development of their disposal well infrastructure. This role will be a key internal resource for subsurface expertise, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of their existing wells and guiding future disposal strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility is to develop and lead long-term strategies for water and acid gas egress across our asset base, integrating subsurface performance data, regulatory context, and industry best practices. Translate technical findings into clear commercial and operational risks, and guide decision-making to ensure reliable, cost-effective disposal pathways.
- Support internal review and interpretation of third-party reservoir models and ensure sound engineering judgment is applied to outputs.
- Manage or contribute to regulatory applications related to both water wells and acid gas injection wells.
- Hire, onboard, and provide ongoing management / supervision of wellsite supervisors.
- Provide technical leadership in the assessment, modeling, and optimization of existing water and acid gas disposal wells, including pressure monitoring, workovers, and abandonments.
- Optimize cost performance related to disposal well operations by identifying high-cost drivers (e.g., acid jobs, water disposal OPEX, workovers) and recommending more efficient maintenance and service strategies including an evaluation of the frequency, effectiveness, service provider abilities, and cost justification of recurring activities (e.g., monthly acid jobs vs. semi-annual programs) and propose optimizations.
- Provide input into disposal well OPEX planning and proactively address feedback on cost competitiveness.
- Lead or contribute to risk assessments and HAZOP analyses related to disposal infrastructure.
- Evaluate technical feasibility of new disposal well locations, focusing on subsurface suitability (reservoir integrity, seismicity, pressure profiles, etc.).
- Represent the company on external industry working groups to protect and promote corporate interests.
- Interpret and communicate technical reports (e.g., well transfer documents, modeling summaries) to inform commercial and operational decisions.
Qualifications:
- 20 + years of industry experience in subsurface engineering background (reservoir, geological, or completions engineering preferred).
- Direct experience with disposal wells and AGI operations, including regulatory knowledge of AER D65, Class II/Ib wells, and reservoir evaluation.
- Proficiency in interpreting and critiquing disposal well models and inputs.
- Strong working knowledge of disposal well infrastructure, particularly subsurface systems and typical failure points.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
