Senior Building Architect

Position Overview

This position exists to deliver expert leadership and project management for industrial building design and coordination activities under a major energy contract based in England. The role requires overseeing architectural, structural, and multi-disciplinary engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards, and maintaining top-quality documentation throughout all phases of the project.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Strategy

  • Define conceptual principles for building engineering studies and prepare basic design data and specifications.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate structural engineers, architects, and building designers to ensure technical quality.
  • Organise and assign discipline workload, monitor progress against deadlines, and act as primary interface for all building-related matters.

Quality Compliance & Oversight

  • Coordinate architectural, structural, and HVAC studies, ensuring technical and regulatory constraints are thoroughly analysed.
  • Validate drawings and deliverables issued by engineering offices or subcontractors for accuracy and compliance.
  • Guarantee the quality and compliance of all building-discipline studies according to project standards, procedures, and document-flow rules.

Project Execution Support

  • Participate in project reviews, risk analyses, audits, and coordination meetings to support project management teams.
  • Manage subcontractor tendering and review deliverables during the EPC phase.
  • Coordinate with all disciplines, including Electrical, HVAC, HSE/Safety, Instrumentation, Piping, Underground networks, and others.

Reporting & Performance Management

  • Maintain continuous communication with Project Management and relevant departments regarding progress and resources.
  • Track project modifications and prioritise them, verifying feasibility and reviewing technical drawings.
  • Support reporting, planning, and design follow-up activities, maintaining real-time commented master documents and managing the open points list.

Training & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply and maintain up-to-date project procedures, standards, and engineering instructions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Organise and validate structural drawings, packages, standards, and calculation notes, supervising 3D model activities and material take-offs.
  • Ensure all documentation is technically accurate, readable, and compliant, including adherence to traceability and verification rules.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Confirmed experience in building engineering within industrial sectors.
  • Technical mastery of industrial building design across PRO & EXE phases.
  • Strong understanding and application of workflow, task sequencing, and project-specific procedures.

Key Competencies

  • Ability to coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability in project leadership, technical supervision, and quality assurance.
  • Expertise in information traceability, document control, and maintaining consistency between discipline drawings.

The company is a global EPC provider, specialising in complex engineering projects requiring stringent adherence to standards, procedures, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Strategy

  • Analyse technical and regulatory constraints and prepare basic design data and specifications for industrial buildings.
  • Define the conceptual principles while coordinating architectural, structural, and HVAC studies and associated disciplines.
  • Organise workloads, assign tasks, and monitor progress according to project deadlines, ensuring proper resource allocation.

Quality Compliance & Oversight

  • Validate drawings issued by engineering offices and subcontractors to uphold quality and compliance standards.
  • Guarantee technical quality, content accuracy, and presentation of all documentation in English, following strict project standards.
  • Supervise verification of calculation notes, drawing title blocks, and numbering per established procedures.

Project Execution Support

  • Manage estimates including quantities and hours and oversee building material take-offs for accurate project planning.
  • Participate in project reviews, risk analyses, audits, and coordination meetings during execution phases.
  • Maintain continuous communication with project management teams, providing design follow-up and progress updates.

Reporting & Performance Management

  • Support project management teams in reporting, planning, and monitoring adherence to budgets, schedules, and milestones.
  • Maintain real-time commented master documents and manage the “open points” list to ensure traceability and action tracking.
  • Regularly report to the Project Lead and Building/Civil Lead regarding status and progress of deliverables.

Training & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply and monitor project procedures, document-flow rules, and colour-code verification requirements.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate structural engineers, architects, and designers, fostering team development and knowledge transfer.
  • Organise and validate drawings, architectural packages, standards, and calculation notes to maintain technical consistency.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Confirmed experience in building engineering with technical mastery of industrial design in PRO & EXE phases.
  • Ability to demonstrate management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams, including structural engineers and architects.
  • Strong understanding and application of workflow, task sequencing, project standards, rules, and engineering instructions.
