Senior Process Safety & Risk Engineer

Department: Operations Expansion & Start-Up

Job Purpose

The Senior Process Safety & Risk Engineer is responsible for deploying and implementing asset-based process safety, loss prevention, and risk engineering objectives. This role provides critical technical input and advisory support to ensure compliance with relevant standards across assets, facilities, brownfield projects, and major capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement company process safety, loss prevention, and risk management programs within assigned assets.
  2. Review engineering documentation, project deliverables, and interface documents for compliance with standards.
  3. Facilitate hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessment studies; prepare related reports.
  4. Ensure implementation of loss prevention engineering procedures.
  5. Conduct major safety studies such as Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), HAZOP, and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) reviews; coordinate with consultants and internal teams.
  6. Lead Safety Case and Barrier Management initiatives to maintain effective safety barriers.
  7. Review Management of Change (MOC) requests to ensure plant integrity and safety.
  8. Monitor and analyze process safety performance indicators; identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  9. Support administration and sustainability of L3 Manage Operations Risk (MOR) and L3 Ensure Process Safety processes.
  10. Represent Process Safety & Risk Engineering in project safety studies (HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, QRA, etc.).

Job Context & Challenges

  • Coordination of process safety and risk management strategies across onshore and offshore assets, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Managing compliance with evolving regulations and standards.
  • Working independently on complex safety issues and providing expert guidance to stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Safety).
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 8 years in oil & gas sector focusing on process safety, loss prevention, and risk management.
    • Expertise in hazard identification techniques (HAZOP, What-If) and risk assessment methodologies.
    • Practical knowledge of safe systems of work and emergency preparedness.
    • Exposure to EPC, commissioning, and start-up phases is an advantage.

  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
