Airswift is looking for a Senior Production Chemist to work in a contractor (
12 months, with a strong possibility of extension) position in Mexico City for an oil and gas company.
To ensure the integrity and optimization of hydrocarbon production systems by identifying, mitigating, and managing production chemistry challenges across allocated assets. This includes evaluating chemical treatment needs, implementing field trials, managing analytical data, and ensuring export quality compliance. The role supports operational efficiency and asset integrity through close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, rigorous application of HSEQ standards, and strategic input into asset planning, budgeting, and project development.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and assess the need for production chemicals to safeguard asset integrity and enhance current and future production.
Detect and quantify production chemistry issues within assigned assets, evaluating their severity and impact.
Recommend technically feasible mitigation or remediation strategies, considering cost, HSE, integrity, and operational practicality in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Ensure all changes are implemented through the Management of Change (MoC) process.
Plan, implement, and optimize chemical treatments, including field trials and ongoing performance monitoring.
Manage asset-specific chemical application procedures and ensure alignment with operational requirements.
Monitor chemical applications and associated KPIs to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
Lead Interpretation of analytical results, including unknown deposits, and recommend appropriate chemical solutions in coordination with stakeholders.
Manage production chemistry analytical data and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
Oversee sampling strategies to meet regulatory, commercial, and integrity requirements.
Ensure export quality meets refinery specifications (tanker/export line), including leading negotiation and relationship management with external parties.
Prepare annual and ad-hoc waivers, contaminants lists, and documentation for new products.
Contribute to annual chemical permit reviews and sub-list reports.
Provide chemistry support for asset-based projects, including new and infill wells.
Participate in well and process reviews, and contribute to the Asset Plan.
Meet regularly with production teams to troubleshoot operational issues and lead technical guidance.
Collaborate closely with onshore and offshore teams, including chemists, production optimization, maintenance, compliance, HSEQ, drilling, subsurface, and well intervention groups
Communicate asset requirements to the Contract Manager for production chemicals and related services, highlighting any deficiencies.
Manage day-to-day interactions with vendor representatives assigned to the asset.
Prepare technical tendering documents and support the evaluation of proposals in coordination with Supply Chain.
Identify and execute short- to mid-term enhancement projects in coordination with Process and Reservoir Engineering to add business value.
Participate in discipline forums to promote cross-learning and share best practices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in Chemical engineering or similar.
Master’s degree is desirable.
Professional Experience (Required experience in a clearly definable field of activity and total years)
Experience, preferably in offshore operations.
Strong background in chemical production engineering
Must have solid knowledge of offshore drilling activities
Technical knowledge - general knowledge of all technical areas affecting platform operations (Subsurface, Wells, Subsea, Processes, Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, and Instrumentation)
Commercial knowledge - knowledge of production optimization and contractual agreements with partners and suppliers
Procedural knowledge - knowledge of all guidelines and procedures relevant to platform operations
