Senior Technical Safety Engineer – Project Engineering Team (Topside)

Location:

Port, Turkey (Onshore Scope)


Project Overview:

The Sakarya Gas Field Development is a major offshore energy project in Turkey, with onshore facilities located at Filyos Port. The onshore scope includes topside integration, processing facilities, and associated infrastructure to support gas treatment and export.


Role Purpose:

The Senior Technical Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all topside engineering and construction activities comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project-specific safety philosophies. This role provides technical expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of safety systems throughout the design, construction, and commissioning phases.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Engineering & Compliance:

  • Develop and review safety philosophies, specifications, and procedures for topside facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards (API, ASME, ISO, IEC) and Turkish regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management:

  • Conduct HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and other safety studies for onshore facilities.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with topside systems and construction activities.
  • Design Review & Verification:

  • Review engineering deliverables (layouts, P&IDs, safety diagrams) for compliance with safety requirements.
  • Validate fire and gas detection systems, emergency shutdown systems, and passive/active fire protection measures.
  • Construction & Commissioning Support:

  • Provide technical safety input during installation and pre-commissioning phases.
  • Ensure safety-critical elements are installed and tested as per project requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare safety reports, risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Interface with client, contractors, and regulatory bodies on safety matters.


    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Safety Engineering.
    • Minimum 10+ years experience in technical safety engineering within oil & gas or large-scale energy projects.
    • Strong knowledge of safety systems, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance.
    • Familiarity with international codes and standards (API, IEC, NFPA, ISO).
    • Experience in onshore topside facilities preferred.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
