Our client, a major company is seeking a Technical Manager to work within their facilities located in Dar es Salaam for a perm, full-time position.
The Technical Manager serves as the engineering backbone of ETC Cargo Limited’s operations. This role ensures that the technical reliability of assets aligns with operational demands. Responsibilities include maintaining the efficiency of fertilizer bagging and blending plants and managing the lifecycle and maintenance of the heavy logistics fleet (Reach Stackers, Earth Moving Equipment, and Forklifts).
Key Responsibilities
1. Fertilizer Plant Maintenance & Operations
- Plant Reliability: Oversee the operation and maintenance of fertilizer bagging lines, minimizing downtime during peak discharge and bagging periods.
- Process Integrity: Maintain calibration of weighing scales and stitching machines to ensure product accuracy.
- Preventive Maintenance: Implement scheduled maintenance for conveyor belts, hoppers, sewing heads, electrical motors, and PLC control systems.
- Modifications: Recommend and execute technical improvements to increase Tons Per Hour (TPH) throughput and reduce spillage.
2. Heavy Equipment & Fleet Management
- Fleet Readiness: Ensure availability of mobile fleet (Reach Stackers, Forklifts, Excavators, Wheel Loaders) for cargo movement.
- Hydraulics & Engines: Supervise diagnostics and repairs on heavy diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic lifting systems.
- Spares & Inventory: Manage technical stores, maintaining critical spares without inflating inventory costs.
- Third-Party Repairs: Oversee external service providers for specialized repairs, ensuring quality and cost control.
3. Leadership & HSSE
- Safety Compliance: Promote a “Safety First” culture and ensure compliance with statutory regulations and best practices for chemical handling.
- Team Management: Lead, schedule, and train a technical team of fitters, electricians, welders, and plant operators.
- Reporting: Submit weekly technical reports to the Operations Manager detailing asset availability, breakdown hours, and maintenance costs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Plant Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years in a technical leadership role, preferably in Logistics, Port Operations, or Fertilizer Processing.
- Experience with Conveyor Systems and Bagging Technology.
- Proficiency in hydraulic systems and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in Heavy Plant Maintenance (Reach Stackers/Yellow Metal)
