Airswift is seeking a Training and Compentency Lead to support a major LNG client in Houston, TX for an initial 1-year contract.
The Training & Competency Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing training and competency assurance programs at the client’s LNG operations facility.
Leading a team of trainers, assessors, and a training coordinator, this role ensures the workforce is fully competent, compliant, and operationally ready. The position plays a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-performing operations aligned with regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
HSEQ & Process Safety
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements and licence-to-operate obligations
- Contribute to risk identification, assessments, and mitigation activities
- Support permit-to-work governance and process adherence
- Provide input into safety case development and documentation
- Promote and reinforce Process Safety Management (PSM) practices across the team
- Support identification and management of pre-operational and operational risks
Leadership & People Management
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary training and competency team
- Assign responsibilities and ensure effective delivery of training and assessments
- Foster a strong safety culture and high-performance environment
- Build capability through coaching, mentoring, and continuous development
- Align training strategies with project and operational priorities
Training & Competency Management
- Design, implement, and continuously improve site-specific training programs
- Ensure alignment with organizational goals, operational requirements, and industry standards
- Oversee delivery of classroom, on-the-job, and simulation-based training
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to identify training needs
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal training requirements
- Manage training schedules, logistics, and documentation in collaboration with the Training Coordinator
- Maintain accurate tracking of training completion, competency assessments, and certifications
- Monitor and report on training effectiveness, metrics, and workforce readiness
Operational Excellence
- Ensure workforce competency and capability prior to project startup (RFSU)
- Drive consistency and standardization across training programs
- Implement best practices in learning, assessment, and competency assurance
Skills & Experience
Technical & Professional
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in training and competency development (preferably LNG, oil & gas, or energy sector)
- Strong knowledge of competency assurance frameworks and technical training delivery
- Experience in operational environments or asset-based roles (e.g., LNG, FPSO, platforms) preferred
- Familiarity with Process Safety Critical Competencies
- Understanding of regulatory, legislative, and compliance requirements
