Lead Electrical Engineer, Battery Energy Storage Systems

Lead Electrical Engineer specialising in Battery Energy Storage Systems will lead the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of advanced energy storage solutions.

These systems are critical to integrating renewable energy, stabilising power grids and improving overall network efficiency. The role involves working within multidisciplinary teams and contributing directly to the transition towards sustainable energy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure and optimise BESS at both system and component level
  • Develop and prepare technical specifications and documentation
  • Select appropriate battery technologies and electrical components
  • Support the integration of BESS into existing power grids across Germany, including interaction with control and protection systems
  • Assist with commissioning, functional testing and site acceptance activities
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and cross-functional teams
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety protocols and environmental regulations
  • Create and maintain accurate technical documentation
  • Provide on-site commissioning support where required

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in energy storage systems, high-voltage systems and grid connections, ideally within BESS projects
  • Strong understanding of battery technologies such as lithium-ion and NMC
  • Experience with HV and MV systems, protection schemes, power electronics and grid compliance requirements (VDE AR-N 4120 and 4130)
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems and grid integration
  • Familiarity with applicable standards (VDE, IEC, DIN)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach
  • Willingness to travel as required

Desirable

  • Experience in project management or cross-functional coordination
  • Additional expertise in renewable energy integration
  • Knowledge of control and automation systems
