Construction Foreman
Contract Position (Opportunity to Become Permanent)
Airswift is supporting one of our clients, a Calgary-based environmental consulting and waste management company serving the upstream oil and gas industry, in their search for a skilled Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Representative.
The client provides full?service remediation and reclamation contracting, technical environmental services, and specialized waste management solutions. They operate projects throughout Alberta, supporting a variety of upstream oil and gas operations. This role will work closely with field teams and project managers to maintain a strong safety culture within an active industrial and environmental services environment.
This is a contract position with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and operational needs.
Position: Construction Foreman
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Foreman is responsible for leading on-site field activities, supervising crews, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring construction, earthwork, and reclamation tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary on-site supervisor for the sub-contractors; resolve issues proactively
Lead daily work activities of field crews, equipment operators, and laborers.
Provide hands-on direction and ensure crews understand work plans, hazards, and productivity expectations.
Coordinate subcontractors and ensure tasks are completed according to project specifications.
Perform layout, grade checking, and verification of construction and earthwork activities.
Ensure all work is completed following drawings, specifications, and environmental requirements.
Monitor site manpower, equipment usage, and material deliveries.
Ensure proper maintenance and operation of equipment; report deficiencies promptly.
Conduct daily tailgate meetings and reinforce safety practices with all personnel.
Work with the HSE Manager to identify hazards, conduct inspections, and implement corrective actions.
Maintain detailed site logs, photos, quality checks, and progress updates.
Assist Project Manager with scheduling, planning, and reporting.
Communicate clearly with crew members and management regarding progress, issues, or delays.
Support training and mentoring of new employees or junior personnel.
Education
Technical Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
Equivalent combination of education and field experience will be considered.
Experience
5–10 years of hands-on construction experience in civil, earthworks, remediation, or reclamation projects.
Minimum 3 years in a leadership or foreman position supervising field crews.
Proven experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment operators, and laborers.
Strong background in heavy equipment operations, grading, and site layout (ability to read grades, survey stakes, cut/fill).
Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and environmental requirements.
Experience maintaining site documentation such as logs, safety records, quality checks, and daily reports.
Knowledge & Competencies
Strong understanding of civil earthworks, environmental construction, and site remediation practices.
Knowledge of construction sequencing, productivity targets, and cost awareness.
Ability to lead crews effectively, manage conflict, and maintain high-quality standards.
Strong communication skills with both field personnel and management.
Skilled in hazard identification and safe-work practice implementation.
Certifications (Required or Willing to Obtain)
Standard First Aid & CPR
WHMIS
H2S Alive
Ground Disturbance (Level II preferred)
CSTS or equivalent industry safety orientation
Valid Class 5 driver's license (non?GDL), with clean abstract
Ability to pass pre?employment drug & alcohol testing per company policy
