Contracts Lead

Employment Type: Contractor
Location: Qatar

Role Purpose

The Contracts Lead is responsible for hands on post award commercial and contract management of a multibillion dollar EPCC contract supporting major LNG onshore projects. The role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, timely, and cost effective project delivery while protecting commercial value and minimizing contractual risk.

This is a high visibility role operating in a complex, fast paced, multicultural project environment.

Job Context & Key Challenges

  • Oversight of large, complex, and high value EPCC contracts
  • Managing complex contractual issues and change scenarios
  • Operating in a dynamic LNG megaproject environment
  • Extensive interface across multiple internal departments
  • Working under significant schedule and commercial pressure
  • Negotiating with multiple stakeholders to protect company interests
  • Driving best in class contract management and execution standards

Key Responsibilities

Contract & Commercial Management

  • Lead all post award commercial and contract management activities for the EPCC contract
  • Draft, manage, and administer contractual correspondence, notices, and formal communications
  • Manage variations, change orders, and amendments in line with approved governance processes
  • Support execution of the Value Protection Plan to maximize commercial outcomes

Risk, Claims & Performance

  • Identify contractual and commercial risks and advise on mitigation strategies
  • Support preparation of regular contract and commercial performance reports for project leadership
  • Work closely with the Claims and Disputes team to manage claims and disputes in accordance with governance requirements
  • Ensure robust contract compliance throughout execution

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Maintain close working relationships with PMT members, Functional Managers, Legal, and Risk teams
  • Coordinate inputs for contract evaluations and end of contract closeout activities
  • Provide timely and accurate contractual advice to support decision making

Project Environment Expectations

  • Operate effectively in a high pressure, high value project environment
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, initiative, and multitasking ability
  • Support flawless execution across safety, quality, cost, and schedule

Corporate & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Comply with Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Company policies
  • Adhere to antitrust and competition laws, and firewall compliance requirements
  • Support the Qatarization Program through knowledge sharing and development of Qatari staff (mandatory for expatriates)

Minimum Qualifications & Experience (Mandatory)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following disciplines:

    • Business
    • Law
    • Engineering
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Construction Management
    • Quantity Surveying

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years total experience in a relevant business or technical discipline
  • At least 4 year’s experience within the Oil & Gas / Energy sector
  • Minimum 1 year in a supervisory, acting, or contractor oversight role
  • Proven experience on Lump Sum Major Energy Projects (post award) in a similar role
  • Strong handson experience managing contractors, including

    • Contractual correspondence
    • Change management and variations
    • Commercial and contractual advisory support

Technical & Professional Skills

Must Have

  • Strong commercial and contract risk acumen
  • Ability to produce clear, structured, and defensible contractual correspondence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven stakeholder management and influencing capability
  • Ability to work independently under pressure in complex environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience in claims, disputes, or legal resolution
  • Exposure to best practice contract management frameworks in major capital projects
