Project Manager / Sub?Project Manager – Hydrogen Stations

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager / Sub?Project Manager  to oversee the delivery of multiple hydrogen compression, valve, and metering stations. The position is being offered on a long term (3+ years) contract basis

This role forms part of a major, multi?year programme developing the national hydrogen backbone. You’ll be responsible for executing station scopes spanning civil works, mechanical and electrical systems, compression and metering packages, and integration with the wider hydrogen pipeline network.

You’ll work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, commissioning, and project controls teams to ensure station packages are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end?to?end delivery of station scopes from FEED through EPC execution.
  • Manage multi?disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil) to ensure design integrity, constructability, and seamless system integration.
  • Oversee interface points between station assets, pipelines, grid connections, and central control systems.
  • Manage procurement activities and delivery schedules for critical equipment such as compressors, valves, instrumentation, and E&I systems.
  • Lead construction readiness reviews and ensure commissioning planning aligns with wider project milestones.
  • Track progress against cost and schedule baselines; identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure all works comply with HSE standards, regulatory frameworks, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide structured reporting on project performance, risks, and key decisions to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage suppliers, contractors, and service providers to ensure safe, high?quality execution.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering or a related discipline (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
  • Proven experience delivering station, plant, or facility?type infrastructure in gas, hydrogen, or pipeline transmission environments.
  • Strong background working within EPC/EPCM project structures.
  • Knowledge of process systems, compression, metering, E&I integration, and control system interfaces.
  • Experience working with project controls disciplines including cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards, permitting requirements, and regulatory frameworks for hydrogen or gas infrastructure.
  • Competent in project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
  • Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) advantageous.
  • Experience developing design and procurement packages, ensuring alignment with execution plans.
  • Familiarity with third?party design verification processes and managing resulting actions/comments.
