About The Role 

The Electrical Commissioning Superintendent is responsible for leading, planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning activities to ensure all systems, equipment, and infrastructure are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project, operational, and regulatory requirements. This senior role provides strong technical leadership, manages resources and documentation, oversees safety and risk during energisation, and collaborates across construction, operations, and vendor teams to deliver a seamless transition from construction to operational readiness.

Pay rate: $105-145 per hour
Duration: 12+ months 

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in HV/LV electrical systems and commissioning methodologies
  • Experience with systemisation, CMS processes, FAT/SAT, and commissioning workflows
  • Knowledge of protection systems, SCADA, PLCs, and network integration
  • Ability to review/approve drawings, test procedures, switching plans, and commissioning documentation
  • Competent with ITRs, CVCs, RFC/RFSU, and energisation requirements

Safety & Risk

  • Proven leadership in safe energisation and high-risk electrical works
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, isolation/permit systems, and risk processes (HAZOP, TBRA, CRAW)
  • Experienced in risk identification, mitigation, and SIMOPS coordination

Leadership & Communication

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across construction, commissioning, and operations
  • Skilled communicator with strong planning, problem-solving, and decision-making capability
  • Experience mentoring and developing commissioning personnel

Desirable Experience

  • Background in Commissioning leadership roles
  • Experience with HV substations, power distribution, renewables, or major infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to FIFO environments, live operations, and asset handover processes
  • Familiarity with digital commissioning systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning planning, execution, and safe system energisation
  • Manage resources, vendors, and coordination across stakeholders
  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, procedures, and certification
  • Oversee testing of electrical, control, and protection systems
  • Ensure safety compliance, risk management, and isolation controls
  • Provide technical leadership and reporting on progress and risks
  • Manage punch lists, change control, and documentation updates
  • Coordinate handover to operations and support operational readiness
  • Work closely with construction teams to ensure smooth project delivery
