Field Operator – Water Operations

Position Overview

The Field Operator – Water Operations is responsible for monitoring, operating, and supporting water treatment, salt water disposal, and distribution systems through remote and field coordination. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant water operations by leveraging SCADA systems, operational data, and effective communication with field personnel.

Key Responsibilities

System Monitoring

  • Monitor water treatment facilities, salt water disposal systems, and distribution networks using SCADA systems
  • Track and analyze flow rates, pressure levels, reservoir levels, and system performance
  • Identify abnormal conditions and respond proactively to system alarms

Remote Operations

  • Adjust pumps, valves, inlets, and related equipment remotely to maintain optimal system performance
  • Respond promptly to alarms and initiate corrective actions
  • Support troubleshooting efforts during system disruptions or failures

Coordination & Field Support

  • Communicate clearly with field operators to coordinate maintenance, repairs, and emergency response
  • Dispatch I&E technicians, electrical crews, and field personnel for on-site troubleshooting when remote resolution is not feasible
  • Provide operational guidance to field teams as needed

Data Management & Reporting

  • Record operational data, incidents, and maintenance activities accurately in logs and reports
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational performance reports
  • Maintain clear documentation of system changes and events

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure operations comply with applicable regulatory requirements related to water quality and safety
  • Follow established emergency response protocols during system failures, spills, or contamination events
  • Promote a strong safety culture and report potential risks or hazards

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in ongoing training, system upgrades, and process reviews
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improved efficiency, reliability, and operational performance

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of water treatment processes and water distribution systems
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems for remote monitoring and control
  • Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge related to pumps, valves, and instrumentation

Computer & Software Skills

  • Proficiency in SCADA platforms and data logging systems
  • Ability to interpret system alarms and conduct remote troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and documentation

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to analyze operational data and identify trends, irregularities, or equipment issues
  • Strong decision-making skills, particularly under pressure during system failures or emergencies

Communication Skills

  • Clear verbal and written communication for coordination with field operators, technicians, and leadership
  • Ability to document incidents, operational changes, and corrective actions accurately

Work Environment

  • Combination of control room monitoring and coordination with field-based teams
  • May require shift work, on-call availability, or response during emergency situations
