HEAD, MECHANICAL ROTATING ENGINEERING
Qualification:
- B.Sc. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university; an advanced degree is advantageous.
- Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution is preferable.
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in rotating engineering design within the Oil & Gas industry, with an operator or contractor/consultant. At least 10 of these years must be in offshore Oil & Gas processing projects.
- Of the 15 years, at least 8 years must have been spent as a Senior Rotating Engineer on major projects, and at least 7 years as a Lead Discipline Engineer in reputable engineering consultancies, EPIC contractors, or Oil & Gas companies.
- Fully familiar with international design codes, standards, and relevant engineering practices.
- Fully familiar with mechanical engineering software and design review processes.
- Knowledgeable in EPIC deliverables, equipment specifications, and construction progress reviews.
- Proven ability to manage a discipline engineering team within major project environments.
- Strong technical base at a “proficient” or “mastery” level, with additional capability across other engineering disciplines.
- Strong technical, planning, communication, reporting, and leadership skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage rotating equipment engineering input into the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of offshore facilities, ensuring successful execution within schedule, budget, and agreed specifications.
- Accountable for the technical integrity of rotating equipment engineering and design activities, ensuring safe, cost-efficient, and timely deliverables.
- Provide leadership and direction for all rotating equipment engineering services including design basis development, EPIC scope preparation, design and safety reviews, equipment procurement, vendor assessments, and resolution of technical issues.
- Serve as the project’s technical expert (TA-2) for rotating equipment, with authority to approve certain technical deviations within delegated limits, escalating when needed.
- Provide technical justification and recommendations for deviations to the Engineering Manager, who holds final approval authority.
- Ensure all proposed deviations are investigated, maintain safety, improve operability and availability, and reduce cost without impacting delivery timelines.
- Ensure associated risks are ALARP and appropriately documented.
- Lead development of rotating equipment design scope and ensure all deliverables are compliant with codes, standards, project requirements, and corporate procedures.
- Coordinate all engineering reviews including design reviews, ENVID, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, Bowties, ALARP, SAFOP, SIMOPS, 3D model reviews, and constructability reviews.
- Manage discipline interfaces across all project phases and guide contractor design efforts with respect to safety, start-up, cost, and constructability impacts.
- Maintain professional working relationships with contractors and provide technical clarification and interpretation of scope, specifications, and standards.
- Monitor project rotating equipment resources and highlight critical needs to project management.
- Participate in assurance reviews and audits, ensuring findings are properly closed.
- Provide technical input for EPIC tender preparation, procurement activities, technical bid evaluations, and contractor technical queries.
- Evaluate rotating equipment technologies, field devices, and systems for project use, ensuring optimal techno?economic solutions.
- Endorse rotating design calculations, studies, philosophies, software models, drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation.
- Provide guidance during engineering stages and ensure QA/QC processes meet project expectations.
- Support and facilitate safety and design reviews in coordination with other discipline leads.
- Supervise team members and support development of national engineers through appropriate training and mentorship.
