Airswift is seeking an Instrument Engineer to support a major client in Quintana, TX for an initial 6-months contract.
Job Summary
Contract Instrument Engineer to support the end-to-end execution of minor capital projects (typically valued from $50k to $1M). Responsible for defining the project scope, performing detailed instrumentation design and review with operations and maintenance teams, and overseeing on-site installation and commissioning. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in field instrumentation and project management skills to navigate a complex operating environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Lifecycle Management: Lead minor capital projects through all phases, from initial concept and justification to final startup and closeout.
- Technical Design & Specification: Develop engineering deliverables, including instrument data sheets, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Prepare Front-End Loading (FEL) studies and to secure project funding.
- Procurement & Vendor Coordination: Specify and select instrumentation equipment (e.g., control valves, transmitters, sensors) and manage relationships with external vendors.
- Field Execution: Oversee site construction activities, coordinate with maintenance and operations for system tie-ins, and lead loop checking and commissioning.

Required skills:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering
- Valid TWIC Card
- Experience: 5-10+ years in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry, with a proven track record in project engineering.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with field instruments (pressure, flow, level), control valves, and their integration with DCS/PLC systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong project reporting skills and the ability to communicate technical requirements effectively to multi-disciplinary teams
