Position: Instrumentation Engineer II (Greenfield)
Location: Abu Dhabi
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer for offshore oil & gas projects. The role focuses on detailed engineering (EPC stage), covering design, development, and integration of instrumentation and control systems for complex, large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
Develop and review detailed engineering designs for instrumentation systems, including:
- Control Systems (ICSS, DCS, PLC, SCADA)
- Safety Systems (ESD, F&G)
- Field Instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level)
Prepare and review:
- Instrument specifications, datasheets, and control narratives
- System philosophy and control system architecture
Design offshore facilities including:
- Control rooms
- Instrument Equipment Shelters (IES)
- Field instrumentation layouts
Documentation & Deliverables
Prepare and review key I&C deliverables, including:
- Instrument Index & Equipment Lists
- I/O Lists and Cable Block Diagrams
- Instrument Loop Diagrams & Hook-up Drawings
- Layout drawings and wiring details
- SIL Assessment Reports
- Instrument sizing calculations & adequacy reports
- Material Take-Off (MTO) and schedules
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Prepare:
- Material Requisitions (MR)
- Scope of Work documents
Perform:
- Technical bid evaluations
- Vendor offer reviews and clarifications
Support selection of:
- ICSS systems, transmitters, valves, package systems, and bulk materials
System Integration & Execution
- Ensure proper integration of instrumentation systems with control platforms
- Guide and support 3D modeling activities for instrumentation layouts
- Participate in site surveys and data collection
- Prepare modification scope of work for existing control systems
Compliance & Quality
Ensure compliance with:
- International standards (IEC, ISA, API, NFPA)
- ADNOC standards (preferred)
- Maintain technical integrity of all deliverables
- Ensure adherence to project scope and applicable regulations
Stakeholder Management
Coordinate with:
- Clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Present and represent organizational capabilities in technical discussions
- Obtain client approvals for design deliverables
HSE Responsibilities
Apply strong understanding of:
- Hazardous Area Classification
- HAZID / HAZOP studies
- SIL requirements
- Safety in design and sustainable engineering practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of experience in I&C engineering
- Proven experience in offshore oil & gas EPC detailed engineering projects
Hands-on experience with:
- ICSS, ESD, and Fire & Gas systems
- SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) & AVEVA Instrumentation
- Instrument sizing tools (e.g., Instrucalc)
Strong knowledge of:
- Instrumentation design, installation, and commissioning
- 3D modeling coordination
- Experience with ADNOC projects or Middle East standards (preferred)
- Prior involvement in offshore platform design is added advantage
