Airswift is looking for a Lead Planner to support a major client in Port Arthur, TX on a 12-month assignment

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Planner to support maintenance and turnaround activities at a large, complex refinery. This role is responsible for leading planning efforts across multiple operating units simultaneously, ensuring all work is thoroughly prepared, properly resourced, and executed safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate brings extensive refinery experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.


 


Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and lead the turnaround core planning team to develop planning requirements and schedules, ensure alignment, and review planning outputs.
  • Provide expert planning management to achieve turnaround goals.
  • Oversee planning aspects of integrated turnaround management systems (cost estimating, tracking, forecasting, scheduling, productivity, progress, extra work, contract changes, etc.).
  • Train and orient the turnaround team on planning systems (IPS).
  • Establish or develop the work estimating basis for the turnaround.
  • Lead scope definition, planning, and work package development.
  • Apply risk analysis methods to evaluate schedule risk and determine contingency.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the turnaround planning team.
  • Define, procure, and allocate planning-related resources to meet goals efficiently.
  • Complete assigned governance activities and provide status updates to the Turnaround Superintendent.
  • Coordinate the setup, training, and use of the Turnaround Database System (IPS).
  • Ensure data preparation and validate field planning data.
  • Manage the ECR (Engineering Change Request) process.
  • Assign work scope to planners and track progress.

Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Expertise in turnaround planning and scheduling.
  • Advanced knowledge of planning tools and systems (e.g., IPS, turnaround databases).
  • Experience with cost estimating, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to perform and apply risk analysis (schedule risk, contingency planning).
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Experience with work scope definition and work package development.
  • Knowledge of governance processes and milestone tracking.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and training.
  • Experience managing change processes (e.g., ECR).
  • Data management and validation skills.
