About the Project

The role supports a major offshore development operated by TotalEnergies EP Angola under a Joint Venture framework. The asset consists of subsea production tied back to an FPSO, with oil production, water injection and gas reinjection systems. The position is embedded within the project organization and supports start-up, operations, and performance optimization of metering and allocation systems.

Role Overview

The Metering Engineer is responsible for the integrity, reliability, accuracy, and compliance of oil and gas metering and allocation systems. The role provides technical and operational support to Production, Operations, Reservoir, and Well Performance teams and acts as the focal point for fiscal metering, allocation, and related audits.

Key Responsibilities

HSE and Compliance

  • Demonstrate exemplary behavior regarding HSSE rules, Company Ethics, and Code of Conduct.
  • Promote HSE culture and ensure metering activities comply with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Participate in environmental management and energy efficiency initiatives, including flaring and hydrocarbon discharge control.

Metering and Allocation

  • Ensure availability, reliability, and accuracy of fiscal and operational metering systems, including MPFM, gas, flare, and liquid metering.
  • Perform metering and allocation optimization activities.
  • Validate production and injection measurements and ensure effective mass balance and well reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Rules, Specifications, and local regulations governing fiscal metering.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve metering issues and data inconsistencies.

Operations Support

  • Provide continuous technical support to offshore and onshore Operations teams.
  • Support commissioning, start-up, and routine operations of metering systems.
  • Monitor performance, adjust operating procedures, and propose optimization or debottlenecking opportunities.

Systems, Data, and Tools

  • Ensure allocation and metering philosophy and tools (NPDMS, OFMS) support well performance and reservoir monitoring requirements.
  • Develop, follow up, and improve tools and methods for daily production and injection monitoring.
  • Propose and justify improvements to NPDMS to enhance allocation and material balance reliability.
  • Support development of remote monitoring and virtual flow measurement tools using PI System (PI-AF, PI Vision, Coresight).

Documentation, Audits, and Governance

  • Maintain and update metering documentation, databases, and process data sheets.
  • Act as focal point for internal and external audits related to metering and allocation.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all documentation produced.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as Metering Point Databases, Fiscal Oil Handbooks, and maintenance procedures.

Vendor and Interface Management

  • Coordinate and lead MPFM vendor clarifications, FATs, and SATs.
  • Monitor MPFM performance, perform remote troubleshooting, and manage configuration updates.

Deliverables

  • Validated and auditable metering and allocation data.
  • Updated metering databases and fiscal documentation.
  • Support to commissioning, start-up, and routine operations.
  • Performance monitoring and optimization reports.
  • Formal feedback and lessons learned (REX).

Production Context

  • Approximately 75 kbopd operated production from one FPSO.
  • Subsea architecture including production, water injection, and gas injection wells.
  • Responsibility for fiscal oil and gas metering systems in collaboration with Operations, Reservoir, and Well Performance teams.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, preferably in deep offshore projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar metering or allocation role.
  • Strong knowledge of production metering, fiscal metering, and allocation systems.
  • Proven experience with MPFM, NPDMS, PI System (PI Vision, PI-AF), and remote monitoring solutions.
  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to identify abnormal operating conditions.
  • Experience supporting FPSO operations is highly desirable.
  • English language proficiency is mandatory.
