Job Purpose
The Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning Field Instrument Supervisor is responsible for supervising and executing all field instrumentation activities during the pre- commissioning and commissioning phases of a major process facility. The role ensures that instrumentation systems are installed, tested, calibrated, loop-checked, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
PreCommissioning Phase
- Supervise field instrumentation activities, including installation checks, calibration, testing, and reinstatement
- Review and execute pre commissioning procedures, check sheets, and test records
- Coordinate loop checking, functional testing, and punch listing/clearance
- Ensure correct installation and readiness of instruments, control valves, analyzers, and associated systems
- Verify compliance with project specifications, drawings, and approved vendor documentation
Commissioning Phase
- Support cold and hot commissioning activities for instrumentation systems
- Coordinate with Commissioning Engineers, Operations, Electrical, and DCS teams
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues during system startup and stabilize operations
- Support logic checks, cause & effect testing, and system handover to operations
- Ensure timely closure of punch items related to instrumentation
HSE & Quality
- Enforce strict compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and permit to work systems
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safe execution of site activities
- Ensure all commissioning documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time
Coordination & Reporting
- Supervise and guide technicians and subcontractors in the field
- Report daily progress, constraints, and technical issues to commissioning management
- Interface with construction, QA/QC, and client representatives as required
Qualifications & Experience (Must Have)
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Control Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in field instrumentation, with strong exposure to precommissioning and commissioning
- Prior experience on large oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, or process plant projects
Hands-on experience with:
- Field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level)
- Control valves and actuators
- Analyzers and packaged units
- Loop checking and functional testing
- Strong understanding of commissioning procedures, system turnover, and punch management
Certifications & Technical Skills
- Valid HSE certification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent) – preferred
- Familiar with international standards (IEC, ISA, API)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, hookups, and wiring diagrams
- Experience working with DCS/PLC systems in a commissioning environment
