Process Engineer
Duration: Long term contract til January 2028
Location: Surrey, UK
Position Overview
This position is supporting a major field development project in a remote desert location, focusing on leading and overseeing process design activities. The primary objective is ensuring delivery of process engineering packages and deliverables to meet technical quality, standards, and operational reliability. Preference is given to candidates with relevant project management contractor experience and strong knowledge in process design and simulation tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee contractor process engineering activities and resolve technical issues affecting engineering quality, operability, safety, and project progress.
- Review critical project design documents, such as PFD and P&ID, produced by the contractor and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership and assurance for all process engineering activities, including multidisciplinary coordination and design reviews.
- Ensure compliance of contractor engineering deliverables with project scope, company standards, engineering philosophies, and international codes.
- Lead technical coordination and interface management with licensors, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Lead and participate in HAZOP/LOPA/SIL and other process safety studies, ensuring technical risks and operability concerns are properly addressed.
- Participate in 3D model reviews, and ensure operability, maintainability, accessibility, and constructability considerations are included.
- Drive engineering performance, technical quality, and timely resolution of review comments.
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction, energy efficiency, and schedule improvement while maintaining technical integrity and safety requirements.
- Ensure design reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% project phases meet requirements and standards.
- Review and validate process control philosophies, safeguarding philosophies, and dynamic/transient scenarios.
- Participate in process optimisation and techno-economic evaluation studies.
- Support change management and design freeze activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must hold eligibility to work in the UK (passport or visa) – sponsorship can not be provided.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering discipline; Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Substantial relevant experience in large to mega projects, with at least 3 years of experience with major oil & gas operators.
- Middle East project experience preferred
- Expertise in process simulation tools, such as HYSYS, PRO II, and other process design and safety tools.
- Experience in steady and dynamic systems simulation.
- Proficiency in preparation and validation of H&MB, PFD/P&IDs/MSDs, and design/specifications of process equipment and hydraulics calculations.
- Experience with safety assessment reviews including participation in HAZOP/LOPA/SIL studies.
- Knowledge in HTRI/HTFS, Columns trays/packing design, Corrosion and Material selection, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modeling is a plus
- Knowledge of international engineering standards and company-specific procedures preferred.
- Strong experience in FEED and detailed design development.
- Advanced skills in dynamic simulation and flare/depressuring studies.
- Fluency in written and verbal English; advanced computer skills, especially MS Office.
