Overview

An opportunity to take ownership of process safety leadership on a large?scale heavy industrial development. This role sits within the project delivery organisation and is critical to ensuring that process safety is embedded throughout design, engineering, and execution, through to handover into operations.

You will act as the process safety authority for your area of the project, combining deep technical expertise with the ability to influence teams, drive decisions, and ensure safety requirements are translated into practical outcomes as the facility moves towards start of production.


The Role

As Process Safety Engineering Lead, you will be accountable for process safety across the project scope. You will work closely with engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and authorities to ensure safety considerations are integrated from early design stages through construction and commissioning.

A key focus of the role is to bridge project delivery and future operations, helping to prepare a structured handover of process safety responsibilities as the organisation transitions into production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and be accountable for process safety across the project
  • Drive and oversee HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk assessments, ensuring actions are implemented
  • Review, challenge, and influence engineering design from a process safety perspective
  • Define and apply Swedish and European safety legislation within the project framework
  • Work directly with authorities and internal stakeholders on safety and permitting topics
  • Establish structure for risk tracking, compliance follow?up, and documentation
  • Act as the primary point of contact for process safety—both technically and methodologically
  • Support the organisation in preparing for handover of safety responsibilities to operations

What You’ll Bring

  • Extensive experience from the steel industry or comparable heavy industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of Swedish safety legislation and practical application within projects
  • Several years of hands?on process safety experience in industrial projects or operations
  • Proven experience leading or facilitating HAZOPs, risk assessments, or similar studies
  • Confidence to challenge technical solutions and make clear, evidence?based safety decisions
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines
  • Comfortable taking ownership of safety decisions while working collaboratively to execute them
