Project Engineer

Position Overview

This position provides project engineering leadership and technical oversight for mechanical, electrical, and process-based systems supporting industrial operations. The role is crucial for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering activities related to the design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and startup of systems used in vapor control, emissions management, and water treatment. The successful candidate will act as the principal technical liaison, delivering projects safely, compliantly, and efficiently, with a focus on operational improvements and field execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute technical and managerial aspects of assigned projects from mobilization through startup and execution.

  • Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight for field activities involving mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

  • Lead design reviews and improvement initiatives for equipment standardization, reliability, and quality enhancement.

  • Support electrical and controls troubleshooting during installation, startup, and operation phases.

  • Coordinate with internal teams to develop technical solutions and support customer interactions.

  • Conduct meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors to resolve engineering and project-related issues.

  • Develop operational, maintenance, and compliance procedures, ensuring safety and regulatory adherence.

  • Obtain permits and interface with environmental and regulatory agencies.

  • Perform incident investigations and lead root cause analysis efforts.

  • Prepare documentation and support Management of Change activities.

  • Lead and participate in risk assessments such as PHA, What If reviews, and HAZOP studies.

  • Oversee fabrication, verify installation, perform functional checks, and commission equipment.

  • Supervise field personnel during system setup and operation, with an emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or related discipline) from an accredited institution.

  • Demonstrated engineering experience in petrochemical, refining, or related industrial environments.

  • 8-10 years of relevant engineering experience, combining technical rigor with project coordination and leadership.

Key Competencies

  • Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and project management tools.

  • Experience with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and electrical schematics.

  • Knowledge of rotating equipment and control systems.

  • Strong communication, technical writing skills, and stakeholder management.

  • Self-motivation, accountability, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% and work in varying field environments.

  • Valid driver’s license required; Professional Engineer licensure preferred but not required.
