Our client is looking for a Quality Technician (Electrical) to work within their facilities located in Freeport, TX, for an initial 12-month assignment.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Quality Technician with extensive industrial electrical experience to support the Quality Department in overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and vendor activities at our FLNG facility. This role provides field quality oversight for electrical systems including power distribution, MCCs, transformers, motors, cable systems, and related infrastructure to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, industry standards, and site procedures. This position is primarily field based with occasional travel to supplier facilities for inspections, audits, testing oversight, and vendor support activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Inspections and Installation Oversight: Perform inspections of electrical systems including MCCs, switchgear, transformers, motors, cable systems, terminations, grounding, and electrical testing activities. Monitor field installation and testing activities to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, OEM requirements, and applicable electrical safety standards.
- Work Package and Documentation Review: Review job plans, inspection and test plans, and quality documentation prior to execution. Ensure vendor documentation, test records, and installation data meet FLNG requirements.
- Shop and Vendor Oversight: Provide QA support during vendor fabrication, repair, and testing activities. Verify inspection methods, testing practices, and equipment condition for electrical components.
- Testing and Documentation: Support electrical testing and commissioning activities. Ensure accurate as-found and as-built documentation and alignment with drawings and specifications.
- Procedure Compliance and Deficiency Tracking: Ensure compliance with procedures, standards, and best practices. Identify and document deficiencies, raise punch items or NCRs, and support resolution.
- Cross Functional Support and Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Reliability teams. Provide recommendations to improve inspection practices, vendor performance, and execution quality.
Quality Authority and Oversight:
- Provide independent quality oversight of electrical work, testing, and vendor activities across the facility
- Authority to raise quality concerns and recommend stop work when standards or electrical safety requirements are not met
- Serve as the electrical quality subject matter expert supporting inspection strategies, quality requirements, and risk assessments for critical electrical systems
Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of:
- Power distribution systems (low, medium, and high voltage)
- Motor control centers (MCCs) and switchgear
- Transformers and motors
- Cable installation and termination practices
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Electrical drawings, one-lines, and schematics
- Strong working knowledge of applicable standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and site-specific electrical safety and installation requirements
- Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and SAP. Experience with work package or QA tracking systems is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure clear documentation and effective coordination across departments.
- Field Work: Able to work in outdoor industrial environments and support activities in active units. Occasional travel to vendor facilities may be required.
