The Contract Safety Representative based in Channahon, Illinois, plays a key role in promoting a strong safety culture while supporting day-to-day operations, maintenance activities, integrity programs, and capital (OpEx and CapEx) projects across U.S. pipeline assets.
Reporting to the Safety Unit Supervisor, this position serves as a field-based safety subject matter expert, providing proactive safety leadership and support to operations, construction, maintenance, contractor, and project teams. The successful candidate will work closely with frontline personnel to identify hazards, assess risks, verify compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements, and promote safe execution of work activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and champion a strong safety culture through visible field engagement and leadership.
- Provide day-to-day safety support to operations, maintenance, integrity, and construction teams across multiple geographic locations.
- Conduct field visits, inspections, and engagements to assess compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Participate in planning and execution activities for operational and capital projects, ensuring safety considerations are integrated throughout all phases of work.
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and the development and review of Task Hazard Assessments (THAs), with a focus on high-risk activities.
- Provide field-level oversight and guidance during critical work activities, including excavation, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, line interventions, lifting operations, hot work, and contractor construction activities.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Project Management, and Contractor Management teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action follow-up as required.
- Participate in contractor onboarding and field performance evaluations.
- Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, standards, and management systems.
Working Conditions
- Primarily field-based position supporting active operations and construction environments.
- Frequent travel throughout Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota is required.
- Overnight travel may be required based on project schedules and business needs.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and industrial work environments.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or adjusted schedules during project execution, turnarounds, outages, and emergency response situations.
