Position Title: Welder / Fabricator

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our Melbourne-based fabrication workshop supporting projects within the oil & gas sector. This is a hands-on role ideal for a locally based tradesperson with strong welding skills, a commitment to quality, and experience working to strict industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding and fabrication of structural steel, piping, and pressure components.
- Weld using techniques including MIG, TIG, and Stick (Arc), primarily on carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Ensure all work complies with oil & gas standards, codes, and client specifications.
- Prepare materials, set up equipment, and complete welds to required tolerances.
- Carry out visual inspections and support NDT requirements where applicable.
- Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment.
- Adhere strictly to HSEQ policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades.
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience
- Trade qualification in Welding / Fabrication or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a fabrication workshop, ideally within oil & gas, heavy industry, or mining.
- Competency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
- Ability to pass weld tests as required.
- Strong understanding of workshop safety practices.
- Full Australian working rights.
- Based in Melbourne and able to attend the workshop daily.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience welding to AS/NZS standards or oil & gas project specifications.
- Exposure to pressure piping or structural fabrication.
- Forklift, Dogman, or Rigger tickets.
- Ability to operate workshop equipment (cutting, grinding, rolling, etc.).
- Basic fabrication and fitting skills.
