Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Construction Quality Explosive Environment Inspector to oversee construction activities within hazardous areas on an FPSO project. This role ensures all equipment, installations, and construction practices comply with explosion protection standards (e.g., ATEX, IECEx) and relevant safety regulations to mitigate risks associated with explosive atmospheres.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure all construction activities within hazardous (classified) areas comply with industry standards (ATEX, IECEx, NEC) and project specifications.
2. Inspect and assess hazardous area classifications and verify appropriate equipment and protective systems are implemented.
3. Oversee installation of explosion-proof electrical equipment, wiring, and instrumentation.
4. Verify compliance of materials and equipment used in explosive environments.
5. Ensure implementation of explosion protection measures such as flameproof enclosures, ventilation systems, and pressure relief systems.
6. Conduct regular audits and inspections of construction activities within hazardous zones.
7. Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and non-conformance tracking.
8. Identify and manage non-conformances, recommending corrective actions to ensure compliance.
9. Liaise with construction teams, quality teams, and Ex engineering specialists to resolve issues.
10. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSSE standards.
Requirements
• Diploma in Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
• Mandatory certification in explosive atmosphere standards (ATEX, IECEx, NEC, or equivalent)
• Additional certifications in hazardous area classification or explosion protection are advantageous
• Proven experience in explosive environment inspection / quality control within oil & gas, offshore, or shipbuilding projects
• Experience in FPSO or offshore construction projects is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of hazardous area classifications (Zone 0, 1, 2) and standards (e.g., IEC 60079)
• Expertise in explosion protection techniques (intrinsically safe systems, flameproof enclosures, pressurization, purge systems)
• Strong understanding of HSSE regulations and safety compliance
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks
