Civil Inspector

Location: Padeswood
An opportunity for a Civil Inspector to support a major civil and structural construction project in Padeswood, carrying out independent inspection and surveillance of works across earthworks, foundations, drainage, structural steelwork, and cladding interfaces.

This position sits within a large-scale EPC construction environment focused on the energy transition, supporting a wide range of civil and structural activities on site.
About the Role
The Civil Inspector will provide independent verification that civil and structural works are executed in line with approved drawings, specifications, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), UK standards, and project quality requirements. The role is central to maintaining quality standards across active construction works and ensuring issues are identified early.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent quality inspections and surveillance of civil and structural works in accordance with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and construction programmes.
- Carry out proactive site surveillance during active construction to identify quality issues early and reduce the risk of rework.
- Perform inspections in response to contractor Notifications of Inspection (NOI) and Requests for Inspection (RFI).
- Verify that works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Participate in pre-construction inspections and confirm readiness of materials, equipment, permits, and approved documentation.
- Confirm that construction activities do not commence without approved ITPs, method statements, and released inspection hold points.
- Verify testing and inspection activities covering compaction testing, concrete testing, pile integrity testing, and structural inspections.
- Record inspection results, surveillance findings, and test outcomes in project quality records.
- Review contractor quality documentation, including test results, material certificates, delivery records, and as-built information.
- Identify and report non-conforming works through the project NCR process and support corrective action close-out.
- Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, construction supervision, engineering, and the project quality team while retaining independence from construction execution.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Civils, structural and architecture QC Inspector on EPC or EPCm construction projects within the UK or outside of UK where regulations are equivalent.
- Strong practical knowledge of civil structural and architecture construction practices and inspection techniques.
- Good working knowledge of relevant UK standards and specifications including BS EN standards, Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) specifications, Eurocodes, CDM Regulations.
- Experience inspecting earthworks, foundations, piling, drainage, and structural steel erection.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Understanding of quality inspection processes and the importance of maintaining independence from construction teams.
- Willingness to maintain a regular site presence during active construction phases.
- Relevant technical qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or Construction.
- Level 2/3 Certificates/Diplomas in Civil Quality Control & Assurance (QC/QA).
- Experience in Civil Inspections as part of a Quality Team.
