Airswift is looking for a Commissioning Manager to work for a Chemical company in Pruhdoe Bay, AK, in a 14/14 rotation, for an initial 12-months assignment.


Position Overview

This Commissioning Manager opportunity is a senior technical role supporting the commissioning, system turnover, operational readiness and startup of a major methanol and diesel de-sulfurization project. The Commissioning Manager will play a critical part in ensuring systems transition safely and efficiently from construction through to reliable operations. This position offers the chance to lead commissioning activities in a complex processing facility environment with significant responsibility across planning, execution and stakeholder coordination. Role Context

This role sits within the oil and gas sector and supports a processing facility project located on Alaska’s North Slope. The scope covers construction completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, system turnover to operations, startup and final handover. The working environment is a remote Arctic site with frequent field inspections and outdoor work in extreme weather conditions. The role reports to the Project Manager and works closely with construction, engineering, operations and specialist technical personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the overall commissioning execution strategy, including commissioning philosophies, procedures, schedules and performance measures.
  • Lead pre-commissioning, energization, functional testing and support startup activities across project facilities.
  • Define system and subsystem boundaries for commissioning, turnover to operations and startup.
  • Establish and manage Mechanical Completion, Ready for Commissioning, Ready for Startup and Final Acceptance processes.
  • Oversee turnover packages, handover documentation, punch-list management and closure of outstanding items before system acceptance.
  • Coordinate commissioning requirements with construction activities to support safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Support operational readiness activities, including operating procedures, maintenance procedures, emergency response planning, training programmes and spare parts readiness.
  • Coordinate integrated system testing, troubleshooting, performance verification and final acceptance testing.
  • Review commissioning procedures and test plans and monitor delivery against project requirements.
  • Lead commissioning safety reviews, Job Safety Analyses and SIMOPS planning while promoting proactive risk management.
  • Act as the primary commissioning representative across engineering, construction and operations stakeholders.
  • Facilitate commissioning meetings, readiness reviews and management updates throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Petroleum, Industrial or a related Engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and extensive industry experience.
  • Essential: Minimum 15 years of oil and gas industry experience.
  • Essential: Minimum 10 years of commissioning, startup, operations or facilities project experience.
  • Essential: Demonstrated experience commissioning processing facilities, production systems or infrastructure systems.
  • Essential: Demonstrated experience leading commissioning programmes.
  • Essential: Strong technical knowledge of commissioning and startup methodologies, mechanical completion and turnover systems, and process operations.
  • Essential: Technical understanding of electrical power generation and distribution, instrumentation and controls, and rotating and static equipment commissioning.
  • Essential: Strong leadership, planning, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Essential: Ability to work in demanding schedules and remote Arctic environments.
  • Desirable: Previous North Slope or Arctic facility commissioning experience.
