Construction Lead — Kitimat, BC
Location: Kitimat, British Columbia
Engagement: Multi?year contract
Rotations: 5x2 or 14x7 (camp available for FIFO)
Role Overview
The Senior Construction Lead supports the delivery of major early?works packages for a large?scale industrial megaproject in Kitimat. The scope includes marine infrastructure, demolition, dredging, ground improvement, geotechnical programs, and site support activities. This role leads a small owner?side construction team and manages multiple contractors to ensure safe, high?quality, and efficient execution in a remote, unionized, and operationally sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Set and uphold strong safety expectations across all work fronts
- Ensure robust planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance
- Drive proactive hazard identification and root?cause analysis
- Build a culture focused on prevention and continuous improvement
Quality Management
- Ensure construction meets design and specification requirements
- Promote “right?first?time” execution
- Prevent defects through strong planning and prerequisite controls
- Minimize punch lists to support efficient handover
Execution & Delivery
- Lead a small owner?side construction team on site
- Manage contractor performance and enforce contractual expectations
- Oversee marine works, demolition, dredging, ground improvement, and geotechnical programs
- Interrogate contractor schedules, identify risks, and drive recovery plans
- Maintain strong interface management with operations, engineering, HSSE, and other project stakeholders
- Protect schedule through disciplined scope control
Leadership & Culture
- Shape a high?performance, safety?focused construction culture
- Build strong relationships across project teams and external stakeholders
- Identify weak signals early and act decisively
- Drive continuous improvement, especially in repetitive construction activities
Required Background
- 15+ years of experience in major industrial project execution
- Proven leadership of site teams in complex environments
- Experience delivering marine, civil, geotechnical, or heavy industrial scopes
- Brownfield experience within or adjacent to operating assets
- Strong contract management capability
- Ability to lead in remote, unionized, and weather?challenged environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Work Conditions
- Rotation options: 5x2 or 14x7, 10?hour shifts
- Camp accommodation available for non?local personnel
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- 50?hour work weeks; nights/weekends/on?call as required
- Travel to other project locations as needed
