Job Description - Construction Superintendent (Piping)
Job Purpose
- The Construction Superintendent (Piping) is responsible for planning, managing, and supervising all piping fabrication, installation, and completion activities for CP Topsides offshore structures.
- The role ensures that piping works are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project specifications, applicable international standards, and approved construction requirements while meeting agreed schedules and quality objectives.
- A key focus of the role is maintaining strong interfaces between the Company, Engineering, and Contractor teams to ensure alignment, timely issue resolution, and successful delivery of the piping scope.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Safety, Health, Environment & Quality
- Ensure strict adherence to all HSE policies, procedures, and regulations during piping fabrication and installation activities.
- Promote a visible safety leadership presence through participation in Toolbox Talks (TBTs), Risk Assessments (RAs), and site walkdowns.
- Ensure piping materials and fabricated spools are properly preserved in accordance with approved project specifications.
- Enforce compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and technical specifications.
Construction & Execution
- Plan and manage piping fabrication and erection activities in line with the construction execution sequence and project schedule.
- Ensure spool fabrication sequencing is well planned and aligned with installation priorities.
- Direct all piping installation and completion activities to achieve zero carry-over work upon yard demobilisation.
Supervise and control Contractor and Subcontractor activities related to:
- Piping fabrication
- Mechanical Completion
- Pre-commissioning
- Commissioning
Technical & Engineering Interface
- Work closely with engineering teams to resolve constructability issues, clashes, and site constraints.
- Review engineering deliverables for constructability and compliance with technical requirements.
- Review and comment on deviations from approved construction standards in coordination with Contractors and Subcontractors.
Ensure delivery of a complete and consistent construction dossier, including:
- Materials and fabricated items
- Pre-commissioning and commissioning dossiers
- As-built documentation
Performance, Progress & Resources
- Monitor progress, quality, and productivity of piping works.
- Identify areas of concern related to schedule, quality, or resources, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure adequate manpower, supervision, and technical expertise are available to meet execution demands.
- Analyse construction data and report key issues to site management.
Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement
- Share lessons learned and best practices with contractors to drive continuous improvement.
- Support alignment between Company and Contractor teams to ensure smooth execution and issue resolution.
Corporate & Compliance Accountabilities
- Comply with all applicable Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality policies and procedures.
- Support national workforce development initiatives through mentoring and knowledge transfer, where applicable.
- Ensure full compliance with antitrust, competition laws, and firewall policies.
Minimum Requirements (Strict)
Education
- Diploma (mandatory)
Experience (Mandatory)
Minimum 8 years of experience in a Piping Supervisory role on:
- Large offshore decks
- Topsides
- Living Quarters (LQ)
- Proven experience working with multinational teams
Hands-on experience with:
- Spool fabrication and installation
Piping completions, including:
- Line walks
- Hydrotesting
- Flushing and drying
- Reinstatement
- Flange management
Experience with piping systems involving:
- Carbon steel
- Exotic materials
- GRE piping
- CRA clad piping (mandatory)
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong ability to resolve site and construction problems
- Excellent construction safety track record
- Good communication and coordination skills
Strong working knowledge of:
- International piping codes and standards
- Design specifications
- Safety requirements related to offshore fabrication, transport, installation, brownfield execution, and hook-up
Knowledge of execution methods and risks associated with:
- Sour gas facilities
- LNG production environments
- Experience working within large-scale operating organizations (Projects, Operations, Subsurface, etc.)
