Position Overview
This Cost Engineer opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional with experience in cost control on major industrial projects. The Cost Engineer will play a key role in supporting robust cost management, financial reporting, forecasting, and change review on a large-scale construction development. This Cost Engineer position offers the chance to contribute to a major green industrial project in Sweden, working closely with project, finance, and contractor stakeholders. The Cost Engineer will support project performance by helping maintain cost visibility, compliance, and reporting accuracy throughout delivery.
Role Context
This role is based on a major green steel project in Boden, Sweden, currently in the construction phase. The company is delivering a large integrated industrial facility focused on low-emission steel production using green hydrogen and renewable electricity. The working environment is a major industrial project setting with close coordination across project services, finance, contractors, and supply chain stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Cost Manager across all aspects of cost management, from estimating through to project close-out.
Review cost reports, cash flow information, and change management activities with project contractors through regular monthly meetings.
Help establish accurate cost forecasting processes across construction contractors and supply vendors.
Coordinate with finance, accounting, and project stakeholders to prepare timely written cost analysis and project cost status reports.
Assist with cost review meetings and support the preparation of monthly internal reporting.
Contribute to presentations and reporting materials for project stakeholders.
Monitor project progress to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and potential problem areas requiring proactive management.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Approximately 5 years of experience in cost control on major industrial projects.
Essential:
Strong understanding of project delivery phases and associated cost management activities.
Essential:
Knowledge of cost engineering, estimating, and planning practices aligned with AACE and PMI standards.
Essential:
Experience working across engineering, procurement, construction, safety, quality, finance/accounting, planning, and document control interfaces.
Essential:
Familiarity with cost control software and the ability to analyse cost-saving and value engineering scenarios.
Essential:
Understanding of estimating techniques, including the development and review of major project estimates.
Essential:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers.
Desirable:
Experience in projects delivered through an EPCM contracting approach.
