Position Overview

This Cyber Security - SME opportunity is suited to a highly technical professional supporting cyber security and digital engineering activities within a complex operational environment. The Cyber Security - SME will contribute to backlog reduction, upgrade and innovation projects, and critical cyber security programme support. This Cyber Security - SME position offers exposure to site-based engineering support, technical assessments, documentation development, and hands-on digital equipment activities. The Cyber Security - SME role will suit candidates who can operate across cyber security, digital systems support, and project coordination in a regulated setting.

Role Context

This role sits within the energy sector and supports cyber security and digital engineering activities across operational plant environments. The position works alongside fleet cyber security, digital engineering, and operational support engineering teams on upgrade, innovation, and backlog reduction initiatives. The working environment includes support for critical digital assets, plant systems, and site-based engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cyber security direct and indirect assessments for critical digital assets and support capability determination activities.

  • Develop, prepare, and review cyber security documentation, including access control forms, baseline documentation, walkdown plans, and related programme records.

  • Support project coordination and provide subject matter expertise for digital engineering and cyber security activities.

  • Complete cyber security support tasks such as hardware and software record updates, security control documentation, and extraction of information from baselines, reports, images, and drawings.

  • Carry out baseline capture activities, including execution of approved scripts or similar data collection tools where required.

  • Run vulnerability scanning activities against critical digital assets and document findings appropriately.

  • Perform walkdowns, capture physical configuration details, and document equipment connections and site data.

  • Support back-up activities for critical digital assets and document storage locations.

  • Assist with portable media and mobile device management activities, along with wireless scans or walkdowns.

  • Undertake maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, and hardening of Windows and Linux workstations and servers within digital process systems scope.

  • Review cyber security policies, standards, procedures, inspections, and audit actions, and support implementation activities.

  • Provide design input and subject matter expert review for digital cyber attributes of engineering activities.

  • Perform hands-on keyboard activities and testing on site digital equipment in line with approved procedures and processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:

    Background and skills to support cyber security programme activities and digital engineering work in operational environments.

  • Essential:

    Experience developing and reviewing cyber security plan documentation and related technical records.

  • Essential:

    Experience performing cyber security assessments, baseline documentation, walkdowns, and vulnerability-related support activities.

  • Essential:

    Ability to support maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, and hardening of Windows and Linux workstations and servers.

  • Essential:

    Experience reviewing cyber security policies, standards, procedures, and implementing resulting actions.

  • Desirable:

    Experience scoping and executing virtualization in operational technology environments.

  • Desirable:

    Experience upgrading legacy control systems and supporting migration to modern infrastructure.

  • Desirable:

    Experience working with operator aid computer interface systems using Modbus, OPC UA, and OPC DA.
