Position Overview

Airswift is currently recruiting for a Deputy Cost Control Manager & Finance Interface Lead to join a major LNG project in Mozambique. This is a senior position supporting the Cost Control Manager and leading the interface between Cost Control and Finance, ensuring accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and compliance across a large-scale, multi-billion-dollar project. The role will play a key part in managing owner costs, supporting project financial performance, and ensuring alignment with joint venture and accounting requirements.

Role Context

This role is based in Maputo, Mozambique and supports work linked to a major exploration and production project environment. The position sits within a finance and project services interface, requiring close coordination across project management and cost control functions in a large-scale energy setting. The working environment is aligned to project delivery, budget preparation, reporting, analysis, and cost management oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Control & Management

  • Support the Cost Control Manager in coordinating cost control activities across the project

  • Lead and manage a team of cost controllers

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting processes

  • Monitor project costs, commitments, and cash flow projections

  • Ensure effective cost tracking against approved budgets

  • Consolidate and deliver monthly and annual cost reports

Owner Cost Control

  • Manage all Owner Costs across departmental and project functions

  • Ensure full Life of Project (LOP) cost stewardship, including:

    • Budgeting and forecasting

    • Change management

    • Cost tracking and reporting

    • Invoice verification and commitment management

  • Coordinate preparation of annual budgets and updates

  • Identify and monitor cost risks and opportunities

Finance Interface

  • Act as the key interface between Cost Control and Finance teams

  • Support monthly financial close activities, including accrual validation

  • Participate in cash call preparation for joint venture partners

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and cost recoverability requirements

  • Lead coordination of audits (internal and external, including SOX)

  • Align cost structures with finance systems (SAP, WBS, cost centres)

Stakeholder & Reporting Management

  • Liaise with project teams, contractors, finance, and external stakeholders

  • Support reporting to partners and management

  • Promote cost awareness and cost control best practices across the project

  • Provide cost performance insights and support decision-making processes

Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of cost control professionals

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality outputs within tight deadlines

  • Act as Cost Control Manager when required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (Level 6)

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in cost control or finance within Oil & Gas projects

  • Strong experience on major capital projects (LNG preferred)

  • Proven experience with SAP and cost control systems

  • Solid knowledge of:

    • Budgeting and forecasting

    • Cost engineering principles

    • Joint venture accounting and reporting

  • Previous experience interfacing with finance and audit teams is essential

  • Languages: Fluent English (mandatory). French and/or Portuguese considered an advantage
