Airswift is looking for an Education & Public Programs Manager to support a major client on a 2-year contract in Brooklyn, NY, with an option to renew.
Target Salary: $100,000 - $150,000/year (open for negotiation)
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday. This role will support a center on a typical museum-like setting. The center will be closed on Sundays and Mondays. From time to time, the position will support evening events, with advance notice.

Responsibilities:
- Program Design & Execution
Educational Program Leadership:
- Develop and implement school and camp field trips that align with K-12 Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Amplify Science, owning the program from soup to nuts.
- Coordinate visits with schoolteachers and educators.
- Create new lesson plans or existing modify lesson plans to meet the needs of classes. Check and regularly update school trip reservation portal.
- Collect data, feedback, and testimonials.
- Develop a broad community and stakeholder network across local schools and educational institutions.
Youth Development Leadership:
- Lead up the center’s place-based youth development program, WindScape Labs, in coordination with the local high school.
- Tasks include setting up visits with subject matter experts, mentoring students, organizing presentations/design challenges and capstones, teaching, and regularly giving feedback to participants as well as collecting their feedback on program design and activities.
Public Programs & Event Orchestration:
- Innovatively design and spearhead programs and special events that align with the organization’s mission, engaging diverse audiences in the wonders of offshore wind energy, especially during the center’s public open hours on Thursdays and Saturdays and scheduled port tours.
- This includes delivering educational tours to a variety of audiences and professional groups, from school children, to climate advocate, to elected officials, to the general public.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to maintain dynamic exhibits that captivate visitor interest and support educational objectives.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Outreach & Relationship Building: Actively cultivate and deepen relationships with community partners, industry experts, and local organizations to identify opportunities for collaboration or other engagements.
- Spearhead community science initiatives, working in unison with local groups to foster hands-on participation in projects that enhance understanding of offshore wind science, the environment, and technology.
Program Enhancement & Insights
- Educational and Youth Development Research & Development: Conduct research to continually refresh and expand the educational and youth development offerings of the center, keeping abreast of the latest offshore wind industry trends, education, and youth development methodologies.
- Program Evaluation & Re?nement: Devise and implement evaluation strategies for all programs and events, collecting data and feedback to inform the effectiveness of initiatives and guide future improvements.
Communication
- Social Media Engagement: As requested, work with the extended WindScape Brooklyn team to inform the curation of compelling content on the organization’s social media platforms, highlighting activities, events, educational insights, and elevating the public profile of the center.
Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, communications, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of professional experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in program design and execution, preferably within a museum, educational, youth development, workforce development, or environmental setting.
- Proven success in engaging and expanding diverse age groups through programs and events.
- Expertise in Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or Amplify Science.
- Experience conducting educational research and program evaluations.
- Strong commitment to accessibility and inclusion in educational settings.
- Skilled in community engagement and partnership building.
- A passion for science, engineering, the environment, education, and youth development.
Preferred but Not Required:
- Proficiency in a second language, such as Spanish, Mandarin, or Arabic.
- Experience with social media and marketing communications.
