Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer

This opportunity is suited to an experienced engineering professional with strong expertise in electrical power systems design, analysis, testing, and implementation. The role offers involvement in complex modification and upgrade work across transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, generators, and electrical distribution systems, with a strong focus on technical quality, safety, and compliance. This company operates within a highly technical environment where rigorous design control, configuration management, and engineering verification are central to successful project delivery.
Required Experience:
- Experience leading complex engineering projects involving electrical power systems and power equipment.
- Experience developing engineering design packages, calculations, specifications, drawings, and modification documentation for power system upgrades.
- Experience performing electrical system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and voltage drop analysis.
- Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and post-modification testing activities.
- Experience coordinating with project managers, operations, maintenance teams, and equipment vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Experience maintaining configuration control and updating drawings, calculations, and equipment records following design changes.
Required Skills:
- Strong technical capability in power system analysis and modelling.
- Ability to evaluate and specify transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, motor control centres, variable frequency drives, generators, and auxiliary power equipment.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications and procurement documentation for new equipment and engineering modifications.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NFPA, and NESC.
- Ability to read plant drawings including control wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and logic diagrams.
- Capability in reviewing or producing engineering change documentation, design basis documents, equipment database records, electrical elementary diagrams, connection diagrams, wire tabs, bills of materials, and cable cards.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, technical reporting, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, take ownership of assigned work, and contribute effectively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the standard design process.
- Experience at a nuclear site.
- Experience in switchyard or transmission-related engineering changes.
- Experience with power system software such as ETAP, SKM, or PowerWorld.
- Experience with transformer, switchgear, relay, or generator design and application.
- Experience within nuclear, utility, renewable energy, or large industrial plant environments.
- Knowledge of electrical equipment commissioning and testing practices.
- Familiarity with engineering change and configuration management processes.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence (Preferred).
