Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide specialist support on a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the Netherlands.
Working within the Owner's Engineer team, this role will focus on grid connection requirements, Dutch electrical standards, and regulatory compliance. You will support the development of grid connection designs, review contractor deliverables, and ensure alignment with Dutch regulations and transmission system requirements throughout the development and execution phases.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on Dutch grid connection requirements, electrical standards, and regulatory compliance
- Review HV/MV designs, specifications, drawings, and equipment datasheets for compliance with local standards and grid requirements
- Support the development and review of grid connection, protection, earthing, metering, and electrical infrastructure documentation
- Identify and communicate compliance risks, deviations, and technical gaps to project stakeholders
- Support the development of electrical Basic Design deliverables, including single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, cable systems, and earthing designs
- Provide technical input during BoP and electrical equipment tendering activities
- Review contractor technical submissions and support bid evaluations from a compliance perspective
- Support the development of grid compliance strategies, testing requirements, and acceptance procedures
- Assist project teams with the interpretation of local electrical standards and regulatory requirements
- Support engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams throughout project execution
- Provide technical guidance on regulatory approval and energisation requirements
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong experience supporting utility-scale BESS, renewable energy, power generation, or grid connection projects
- Extensive knowledge of Dutch electrical standards, regulations, and grid connection requirements
- Experience reviewing HV/MV electrical designs, protection systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, and cable systems
- Strong understanding of electrical compliance, grid code requirements, and testing methodologies
- Experience supporting electrical infrastructure design through development and execution phases
- Familiarity with earthing, lightning protection, metering systems, and grid interface requirements
- Experience supporting tendering processes and technical bid evaluations
- Ability to review and assess engineering deliverables rather than acting as lead design authority
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Fluent Dutch and English language skills
