About the Role

We’re looking for a Field Electrical Engineer role that’ll be based primarily in the Melbourne VIC office of an EPC company with regular site visits and on-call after-hours support as required.

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday work for a period of 12 months’ contract with the possibility to become ongoing. The ideal candidate would be a qualified engineer with significant experience in high-voltage equipment, HV switching and open to work on-site with after-hours support as needed.  

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead HV safety governance, including access and switching procedures, safe approach distances, risk assessments, arc flash controls, isolation and earthing requirements.
  2. Authorise HV switching activities, switching sheets, isolation plans, permits, testing sanctions and operator competency requirements.
  3. Oversee HV asset maintenance, testing and return-to-service activities, including preventative, condition-based and major maintenance programs.
  4. Lead technical investigations, fault analysis, reporting and corrective actions for HV incidents and system events.
  5. Plan and support outage execution, commissioning, re-energisation, emergency response and system recovery activities.
  6. Drive reliability improvement, lifecycle planning, budget support and optimisation opportunities across HV assets.

Skills/Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered with BIL and the relevant state regulator as a licensed electrical engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience working with HV and LV electrical systems in energy, utilities, or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:

    • HVOA/EOA requirements
    • Victorian electrical safety regulations
    • Blue Book compliance
    • Protection systems and fault analysis
    • Transformer, generator, and motor operation
    • Earthing, bonding, and lightning protection
    • Overhead line reticulation
    • Experience with DC systems, UPS, and battery technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Experience in wind farm or renewable energy operations, desirable.
  • Reliability engineering or asset management experience, desirable.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools.
  • Requires participation in HV switching, field inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • May involve working at heights, in remote locations, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Participation in on call or after hours support may be required.
