Project Engineer / Site Interface Engineer - Angola
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Site Interface Engineer to act as the primary liaison between site operations and a global engineering delivery team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating effective communication, gathering site information, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring the successful execution of brownfield capital projects throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is focused on engineering coordination, project delivery, and stakeholder management rather than hands-on site operations or maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary interface between site-based project teams and remote engineering delivery centres.
- Gather site information, field data, and technical clarifications to support seamless engineering execution.
- Coordinate with site stakeholders, engineering disciplines, contractors, and local vendors as required.
- Liaise with project design leads and key stakeholders to resolve technical queries and emerging project issues.
- Plan and execute assigned brownfield project scopes in accordance with project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Support projects from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning support, and start-up.
- Participate in concept selection, project screening, and development planning activities where required.
- Assume stewardship responsibilities for safety, cost, schedule, quality, and operability within the assigned project scope.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure alignment with project requirements and objectives.
- Engage technical specialists and engineering subject matter experts as needed to support project delivery.
- Coordinate procurement activities, including the identification, specification, and management of long-lead equipment.
- Support the development and review of project management processes, systems, and deliverables.
- Facilitate issue identification, risk management, and resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure effective communication and smooth transitions between project stages, sites, and stakeholder groups.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 5-10 years of experience within the petrochemical, refining, energy, chemicals, or similar process industries.
- Strong understanding of engineering design standards, specifications, industry codes, and safety requirements.
- Demonstrated project planning, coordination, interface management, and technical decision-making capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Scope Limitations
This position is an engineering and project coordination role and does not involve performing physical site operations, maintenance, commissioning, installation, or construction activities.
Examples of activities excluded from this role include:
- Opening electrical or instrumentation junction boxes.
- Physical wiring, terminations, or resealing activities.
- Electrical isolation, testing, or switching operations.
- Breaker racking, voltage testing, or power distribution interventions.
- Instrument calibration, loop checks, process seal breaking, or tubing work.
- Application or removal of lockout/tagout (LOTO) devices.
- Valve operation or process intervention.
- Interlock bypass activities.
- Working at height, confined space entry, hot work, or other hazardous manual site activities.
This role is focused on project leadership, engineering coordination, stakeholder engagement, and technical oversight rather than hands-on field execution.
